How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
My life is now different in that I now own cattle that can produce milk for sale, and also assist me in ploughing my land. I also have a comfortable bed that I lay on.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
Give Directly has done well in giving us money to change our lives. We had unique needs that we tried to solve with the funds that we received. This was a good way of offering assistance to the community. I have seen nothing wrong that Give Directly has done.
What did you spend your second transfer on?
I spent my second transfer to purchase two cows and a bed. I did not have a bed. I used to lay on storage sacks that I would spread on the floor. I slept like this for many years. I used the transfers to purchase a bed and a mattress and I now sleep comfortably on a bed. I also bought cattle that will assist me to plough my land and also bring me income when I sell milk that the cow will produce. I do casual jobs in my village and my wife burns charcoal for a living. We both earn very little that is never always enough to sustain us. I was really happy with Give Directly. My life is changed completely.

Describe the biggest difference in your daily life.
Ever since I had been having a desire that someday I would own a cow in my compound since having them in our community is such great pride since you have some assets to lean on in case of any emergencies. This was made possible when Give Directly came to our village and gave us the transfers. To this far, this is the biggest difference the transfer has brought into my daily life.
Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
Once I received the message from Give directly, I was so happy that I could feel all the problems that have been pulling me back from achieving my desires were over. I was overwhelmed with joy because I knew that I would now buy a cow which I had planned to have many years back.
What did you spend your first transfer on?
On receiving the first transfer, I spent part of it to purchase two dairy cows to keep in my home. It was my desire to at least have some livestock in my compound but due to inadequate finances to buy them, I could not own even a single one. I am happy that Give Directly has enabled me to fulfill my desire of owning them and my aim now is to allow them to reproduce so that I can have a large herd and to trade them in the future. The cows will also be providing milk for family consumption and also for selling to earn an income. In addition to this, my children's education is also sorted as I will use the money I will get from the sale of milk to pay their school fees. I also bought a new mattress and a new bed to sleep on since I was sleeping on an old traditional bed and my beddings were used sacks and worn out clothes which I could not sleep comfortably. I used the remaining amount to purchase a new bed for my children so that they can enjoy a good sleep since their old bed was also in a bad state.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
I fully depend on the earnings from casual labour jobs which sometimes I can go for a whole week without getting. As a result,We sometimes go without food and my children are often sent home for school fees.Receiving money from Give directly means I will start my own business of being livestock and poultry vendor so as to enable me provide food, school fees and other basic needs to my family.Livestock and poultry business is lucrative and will provide reliable source of income to cater for the above needs.
What is the happiest part of your day?
The happiest part of my day is usually in the evening when I receive the wages for casual labour jobs. At such time of the day,I can buy food for my family members and meet their expectation of not going to bed hungry.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
The biggest hardship I have faced is lack of stable source of income to meet even the most basic needs such as medication. Casual labour jobs that I do for a living are very unreliable and this implies that food, clothing and even medication for simple infections such as influenza flu becomes unaffordable.
