Maurene
received a $22 eighth payment.
"I boosted my second-hand clothe business using the money I have been receiving from Give Directly. I am now happy I have a large stock and this has attracted more customers. I have been selling varieties of clothes from skirts, blouses and dresses that I didn't have before. My daily sales has increased and I, therefore, generate a lot of profit from my business. This is the biggest difference in my daily life since I started receiving transfers from Give Directly.
I am able to pay school fees with ease and my children are no longer sent home due to arrears. Initially, they were on and off the school which affected their academic performance. I have noticed a lot of positive improvement in their academic performance because they can now concentrate on their education.
I am also using part of my profit in farming by buying hybrid seeds and fertilizer which have increased my produce from my farm. I can now provide food for my family and store the surplus which will keep us upto to the next harvest."

"My thirst for education was cut short two years ago when I became pregnant in class 7. Guilt, shame and condemnation overcame me and my esteem hit a rock bottom. When I couldn't summon the courage to face my parents, I ran away to the man responsible for my baby and has been married for two years. Being a mother at such an early age is an incessant thought of regret I have harbored since then. My ambition was to continue with education and acquire skills than would give me a better life than this. "

Grace
received a $523 second payment.
"I spent my second transfer to buy building soil as well as hiring casual laborers to build for me a new house because my initial house was small, shaky and unsuitable for habitation. Every now and then, I was always afraid that it would fall on me and my grandchildren. In addition, I spent the rest of my second transfer on paying school fees for my grandchildren to help them acquire right education that would help them secure a better and promising future. Lastly, I bought a cow from which I hope obtain milk for my domestic use since milk is a precious food to me."

Paul
received a $523 second payment.
"I spent my transfers to pay for my secondary school education. I dropped out of school about a year and a half ago when I was in form three. My parents could not afford to pay for my fees so I could complete my education. I have always wanted to complete high school. I am grateful to Give Directly because I can go back to school and complete my secondary education. This will help me achieve my dreams and get to where I want to be in life. I am currently a pastor and I minister to people, I understand that I need a High school certificate in my pastor hood. I also spent my transfers to acquire a birth certificate. I will need a birth certificate so I can register for my final exams in High school. This is why I invested my transfers to acquire a birth certificate. The rest of the transfers I invested in food and household items for my daily use."

"Receiving this money means a food secure home for me and my family. I will use the transfers to buy oxen and an ox plough which will enable me to plough a bigger portion of my farm within a short time, this translates to more yield ensuring a steady supply of food. As long as I have enough food in my house, I will be able to divert the rest of the money to other activities that can generate income to be spent on education and other basic needs of my family. "
