How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
I would have not done much without GiveDirectly. I had no means of raising fee arrears for my son. His certificate would still be detailed in school. My house would as well be in a sorry state since I never had money for renovation. I feel like freedom has come to my life and household as a whole. Without GiveDirectly, I would still be working for other people on meager wages that would not meet even the basic needs like food for my family.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
GiveDirectly is very transparent and true to their promise unlike other organizations with programs that do not reach people. The power to make choices with my own money is satisfying. However, GiveDirectly would have thought of continuous transfers to the extreme poor like most of us in this community.
What did you spend your second transfer on?
I have withdrawn the second transfer and spent it on clearing fee arrears for my son who sat his secondary education exams last year. I now feel happy as his certificate that was detained due to fee arrears was released. He is now free to apply for advanced learning institutions that would equip him with skills. Education is a great investment for the future that would change our lives for the better.

Describe the biggest difference in your daily life.
The biggest difference in my daily life is that I'm happy and proud my children were able to sit for their examinations because I was able to clear their school fee.
Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
The moment when I received my money I felt so happy and strong. I actually got my life back because I was so down with worries on how to raise money for clearing the school fee for my two children.
What did you spend your first transfer on?
My two children who are in secondary school owed the school a lot of money so when I received the money I spent it on clearing the school fee balance. A port of the money I used to purchase bedding to replace the old worn out bedding. I didn't get a good harvest in the last season so a portion of the money I used to buy a bag of corn for family consumption.
