Erick
received a $26 thirteenth payment.
"Since last year, it has not rained and life is really becoming unbearable. I currently work as a motorcyclist and people barely have money for food leave alone taking motorbikes as a means of transport. The most I can get in a day is $4 and that will only be enough for petrol for a day; nothing to eat, nothing to save. There are days that I will go home empty-handed after staying in the scorching sun for the whole day. For now, I am planning to continue investing most of my transfers in buying goats because they are capable of surviving in the drought, and once it rains, I will go sell them and get my family daily cows that we can milk from and also feed it and when they grow we sell them at a profit. I also have plans of joining my wife in selling of vegetables because what people need the most is food to make them strong and survive these tough times. I will be using my motorbike to go to a nearby village called Gana and purchase the vegetables in bulk at a cheaper price and sell it to my neighbour at affordable prices."

"The organizations ability to distribute transfers as an individual entity has made it simpler for us to believe in and trust the money we receive from Give Directly.
Finding a non corrupt organization that provides funding unconditionally and without bias to everyone in the village, regardless of social, economic or education status was a win for Give Directly."

"Since we were taken through the census, registration, and audit processes, I have experienced a very smooth and transparent process that is corruption-free, and this has given most of us a lot of confidence in stepping outside of our comfort zones and trying out new ideas to bring in money. In my opinion, Give Directly has given us an opportunity to venture into farming and even other modes of business through transparent distribution of cash."

Elius
received a $339 second payment.
"I spent part of my recent transfer on purchasing barbed wire, nails, and building poles for a total of $100. I had intended to protect my compound by putting up a fence. Initially, I used to experience damages and losses to my properties since there was no security. I had always lived with the fear that I would someday lose all my belongings. I am now feeling great for having finally been able to put all my properties in order and make them much safer. To add to that, I managed to settle a loan of $150 that I had borrowed to uplift my taxi business earlier. At least I now have peace of mind since I have been frustrated for so long, which was embarrassing at times. This is because I had failed to keep the promise, which was all about the financial situation that I was in. I will forever be thankful to GiveDirectly for finally restoring my joy in life. Also, since we are approaching the rainy season, I opted to hire someone to prepare my farm earlier than usual. I am therefore confident that this season I will harvest plenty of farm products, thereby covering the issue of food security. With the remaining amount, I bought food for my three family members, which took us almost three weeks. My children are now healthier and more energetic than before."

Jumwa
received a $26 sixth payment.
"I intend to do crop farming this rainy season. If everything goes well, I'll have some food after harvesting. This will allow me to save the monthly cash transfer for some investments because I rely solely on it for survival. Because of the hunger that has gripped us, I have decided not to save anything from the transfer. I'm not regretful; instead, I'm grateful because the money has kept me going during this difficult drought season."

received a $26 sixth payment.
"I decided to put off the plan since I was going to invest in cattle farming and instead focus on improving my health. I'm currently determined to save money so that I can visit a specialist doctor for prescription advice. After that, I'll start working toward my main objective, raising livestock."

Sidi
received a $26 tenth payment.
"My primary goal at first was to convert my house's grass-thatched roof to iron sheets. But for the time being, I want to make sure that I build a little, sturdy house. If I can complete the house before the end of the year, I will be happy. As I am not happy with the state of my existing home, I am hopeful that the tiny savings I will make as a result of the impending move will allow me to fulfill my ambition."

Kazingu
received a $26 sixth payment.
"A while ago, I used to own a large herd of goats, which I sold to cater to the needs of my family. As the compound head, I never wanted to see my grandchildren suffer from hunger whereas there was something I could do to raise money for food. After selling my last goat, I have not been able to buy another one due to a lack of finances. Despite the challenging financial obligation, I wish to be able to acquire some goats soon to revive my rearing venture. I hope the cash transfers make this vision possible as I lack another source of income."

Kazungu
received a $26 sixth payment.
"Working as a herb doctor, the income I make is mostly enough for providing basic needs like school fees and food for my wife and two children. There is nothing much I could do with the earnings beyond the essentials. It is due to this reason that I have not been able to install a water tank, an idea that was born from the water scarcity in my region. Having the water tank will mean that I can harvest and store rainwater for a long period. My goal is to install an underground tank with a capacity of at least 5000 liters. "

Jumwa
received a $26 tenth payment.
"In my old age, I cannot actively contribute to the household needs due to my inability to do any work. Owning livestock is the only source of income I can handle right now. So far, I have obtained two goats and three chickens from previous cash transfers, which I will increase in the coming years. As these animals reproduce, I will sell them to make money and help my son in providing for the family of five. Though my monthly medication costs may hinder me from realizing this dream quickly, I trust that I will be able to save towards achieving it."
