Kahaso
received a $25 fourteenth payment.
"Looking ahead, I intend to save a portion of the cash transfers towards purchasing a wooden bed and a comfortable mattress, which will greatly improve my sleeping experience. Once this goal is accomplished, my next objective is to save a total of $160 to acquire a cow. This cow will not only provide us with a sustainable source of milk but will also assist with plowing tasks on my farm when the rainy season arrives."

Karisa
received a $25 tenth payment.
"Moving forward, my main objective is to build a house for my three children. My primary income source is through casual labor in house construction. However, I face challenges in securing consistent work, often finding jobs for only four days a week. This irregularity poses financial constraints for my family, which has made it challenging for me to construct the house using my earnings. I intend to spend the cash transfers on this goal. Once that is accomplished, my focus will shift toward expanding my herd of five goats. I would have preferred to go for cows instead, but they are relatively expensive. Besides, by leveraging the reproductive capacity of goats, I aim to create a sustainable source of income that will support my family's needs, including education expenses and food."

James
received a $25 tenth payment.
"My goal for the remainder of the year is to venture into goat rearing. In the past, I had experience with goat farming but had to sell the goats to cover my children's school fees. I hope to invest in goats once again which will help create a sustainable wealth when they reproduce. Other than that, I also aspire to explore cattle keeping as a means of expanding my livelihood opportunities."

Kazungu
received a $25 tenth payment.
"My primary goal is to build a house. Four years ago, my previous house collapsed during a strong windstorm, leading me to move into my son's house temporarily. He is currently pursuing his education and only returns home during the holidays, which works for my convenience for now. However, I face challenges when it comes to accommodating visitors or finding a suitable space for them as the house only has one room. Therefore, I want to construct a three-room house that can cater to the needs of my family and provide a comfortable living environment. In addition to the house, I aspire to invest in livestock such as goats and cows. I believe that owning livestock will contribute to the overall financial stability of my household."

Changawa
received a $25 tenth payment.
"In the coming years, I would like to obtain a new house in place of the current one, which is currently damaged. During the rainy season, the space becomes damp and uninhabitable. My priority is to construct another structure. Although I would ideally prefer a brick house, given my financial situation, I plan to build a mud-walled structure with an iron sheet roof. This will provide a safer and more comfortable living environment for my family that the current shelter."

Kabibi
received a $25 tenth payment.
"Now that I have finished repairing my collapsed house, which was a major concern, my focus is on starting a goat and chicken-rearing venture. Since I have no one else to rely on for sustenance, I see these ventures as potential sources of income. By allowing the livestock to multiply, I can sell them and generate funds to meet my various needs and expenses, especially food. This endeavor will provide me with a sustainable source of income and greater financial independence."

Mwanajuma
received a $25 fourteenth payment.
"Being a widow, am the only hope my three children count on to provide for their basic needs such as food and school fees. However, my income from working as a field doctor barely covers all these needs at once. This is why I wish to venture into goat rearing as an additional income stream. Besides keeping goats, I also plan to run a business of buying and selling them during market days. This will allow me to generate funds to support the needs of my family."

Mwenda
received a $25 fourteenth payment.
"My primary goal is to construct a new house to replace the damaged one. The current state of the house is concerning, with a leaking roof that exposes my family to cold weather and potential health issues. I envision building a two-room house with mud walls and an iron sheet roof. To fund this project, I plan to primarily utilize the cash transfers I receive. The new house will provide a safer and more comfortable living environment for my family, shielding us from the elements and ensuring better health and well-being."

Peter
received a $401 second payment.
"Depending on a single source of income can sometimes be stressful and uncertain when the salary is delayed. Therefore, as a side hustle, I hope to venture into the motorcycle spare parts business. I am an experienced mechanic, and handling such a job will not be a bother. From the income, I will comfortably provide for my family of five since the $200 I earn from the tutor job at the vocational college is insufficient to cater to all the family's needs."

Margaret
received a $386 second payment.
"My son completed his Grade 12 examinations at Solio Secondary School two years ago and scored a C-, a grade enough to acquire him an entry position at the college. Unfortunately, this never came to pass, for I did not have finances to clear the $30 arrears he had at school, and the $4 earned from casual jobs such as weeding is insufficient to cater for all family needs as well as his college fee; therefore, he had to pardon his siblings to progress, at least as he waits for us to get finances. I am happy that GiveDirectly made this a success. When I received the transfers, I cleared his grade 12 arrears, and he then received his certificate and enrolled in a vocational college. I paid $200 of the college fees and spent an additional $70 on shopping for his school needs. I also saved $100 towards purchasing iron sheets for a house I wish to construct. For the rest of the transfers, I used on clothing and food for the family of six."
