"I built my house about 14 years ago and it was a tin roofed house. This house has however worn out over time and the roof now leaks. I was planning on replacing the roof and if possible adding another room. The savings I have been making to my savings group whenever possible is aimed at sorting this out. I hope to have enough money in the end of the year to replace the roof."

"I had dropped out of college after studying for four months as I had lacked school fees. I was really worried about if I would resume school until Givedirectly came in. I now will be finishing my training in October if all goes well and this means I can start using my skills. I hope to open a tailoring shop where I can make an income. I will start saving for a machine once school is completed and then rent a shop. In the meantime I will look for work as I try to raise cash for the business."

"I have been saving towards buying iron sheets. I intend to acquire more and consider building a spacious house. I live in a small house that does not comfortably accommodate my entire family. Therefore, despite the high cost of living now, my goal is to prioritize saving my transfers to fulfill the new house-building plan in the next year. That will save my family from the extreme cold during the rainy season because the current house leaks. I also aim at focusing on my children's education."

"My husband and I live in a one room grass thatched house. During the dry season although we had seen some wear we had not experienced any challenges, however now we are feeling the full extent of this wear. Our house feels like outside when it rains as the grass roof right now leaks. I Joined the savings group in order to buy Iron sheets that will allow us get a better living space. We are saving towards building a tin roof house requiring about 20 roofing sheets. This is what I really wish would see a completion this year."

"At the moment we are faced with several challenges. One of these challenges is the lack of food. With 6 children that we have to feed and the lack of rain due to prolonged drought, this has been one of the most pressing challenges. In addition to this, we have a school fees challenge. At the moment we have three children, Zilfano, Mercy, and Daisy who are in different secondary schools and accumulatively they owe about $550 in school fees. This is a challenge for us since we depend on casual labor and fundraising to pay. We also live in a small grass-thatched house which is not enough for my husband and six children. We have started constructing a two-roomed iron sheet house but because of lack of money, the house has not been completed."

"Having in mind the current drought situation in our village, hunger is the aspect that is making my life harder recently. Since it has been about 4 years since we had good rains, there has been a scarcity of work and unproductivity of our farms. This has prompted me to charcoal burning which has been made illegal by the government. Because of this, therefore, I'm forced to stay without food the majority of the time since it's difficult to get casual work which I depend on. This makes my life hard and miserable."

"We are blessed with 5 children, our first born son, Theophilas, recently joined Form one in Tenges Secondary School. Raising school fees for his studies has been a tall order. We are people of little means who do not have any meaningful income generating activities. We sold almost half of the goats we had to be able to pay his school fees, at this rate we will deplete the resources and mark you we have other needs such as food. We are afraid we might not be able to see him through his secondary education. We are way inadequate and it worries us a great deal. We want the best for our son to excel in his studies and God willing get a job in future to assist us and his siblings to come out of misery we are in."

"My health has failed me and it has been disturbing me for sometime now. I have asthma that has weighed me down and derailed me from leading a normal life. I am an early childhood education teacher and sometimes I am not able to attend to my duty whenever I feel so sick. It breaks my heart a lot since the children I teach bear the greatest brunt, I feel for them and it worries me a lot. I have attended several hospitals but I have not been able to recover well. I had resorted to traditional medicine though there has been little improvement."

"I have a plan in the near future to enhance our living situation by expanding our house with an additional room that will serve as our children's bedroom. Presently, our single-roomed house is already quite crowded. Additionally, I intend to acquire a goat for raising, which will not only serve as a lasting reminder of the positive impact of GiveDirectly but also provide a means of sustenance for our family."

"Our intention is to construct a permanent two-room house, and we have already acquired certain construction materials, including sand. The savings I accumulate from the funds received through Givedirectly, along with my husband's earnings from occasional jobs, will assist us in achieving this goal. At present, we reside in a single-room dwelling with a tin roof and mud walls. However, due to our expanding family, there is a requirement for additional space to accommodate everyone comfortably."
