"We are a young family of 3 and struggling to make ends meet especially in terms of food insecurity. My husband used to work with Kenya Wildlife Service as a scout supporting the rangers albeit on a contractual basis. The contract elapsed in February and it made our lives a bit difficult because we could no longer get the constant source of income. He tried a hand in the motorcycle business but it has not been sustainable since we took it on a loan and we have been struggling to pay it back. It has strained us a lot since the little we get goes towards loan repayment and other competing needs."

"I am single and fending on my own. Both my parents have passed, my father passed on sometimes 2020 and my mother followed the following year. Life took a turn for worse, it broke my heart and I momentarily lost hope in life, my future was dimmed. I had to drop out of school after standard 8. I was not able to proceed to secondary school because of lack of school fees, mark you I had passed my Kenya Certificate of Primary Education well. It has never been easy, I depend on menial casual job which are hardly sustainable, notably putting food on the table is an uphill task.Day after day I am faced with massive worries of where my next meal will come from. It is a such a life that I have never got used to, live of misery and despair. It pains me a lot!"

"We are old now and we live a life of destitution because of lack of food. Since we are not able to engage actively in income-generating activities we are left with the mercy of well-wishers and our children. Other times we do menial casual jobs just to sustain ourselves since we have to get a means just to survive. The casual jobs are erratic and hard to come by, they are only available mostly during the rainy season when we can get some work of tending to other people's farms for a wage. We live from hand to mouth and each day presents a challenge of having to worry about where the next meal will come from."

"My primary goal is to own a better house that provides comfort and security for me and my family. Currently, we reside in a dilapidated house that poses several issues, including leaking during rainfall. To achieve this goal, I plan to be saving a portion of my monthly transfers and once I am relieved of the burden of paying school fees for my secondary school child in the next three years, I plan to initiate the construction process, ensuring that our new house becomes a reality."

To achieve my goal, I have devised a plan to save at least $10 from my monthly transfers, with the intention of accumulating enough money to support my educational aspirations."

"My primary goal is to attain improved housing for my family. Presently, we reside in a cramped one-room house that fails to accommodate our large family of 10. The house is in poor condition, with leaks that drench us whenever it rains. In order to address these challenges, I aspire to acquire a spacious two-room house. To realize this objective, I have been diligently saving and intend to persist in my efforts until the start of next year when I hope to commence construction on our new home."

Anthony
received a $319 second payment.
"In our community, where adverse climatic conditions pose challenges to farming activities, leading to a reliance on expensively purchased groceries, I have been exploring alternative drought-resistant endeavors. Building on the first transfer, I allocated $300 of the second transfer towards purchasing ten beehives at $30 each. This supplements the four beehives I already acquired, with the initial set already housing bees. The cost of ordering and transporting the new beehives amounted to $50. I am hopeful that within a year, I will be able to harvest honey from all fourteen hives, as beekeeping thrives in all seasons. Additionally, I invested $26 in three water containers and $21 in three poly chairs. With the remaining $74, I used it to buy food for my family of three. I express immense gratitude for the generous support provided by GiveDirectly and eagerly anticipate the possibilities that the final transfer will bring."
