"I had a debt of 9000 KES from our local table banking group, so I spent part of my third transfer on repaying it. I also spent some on growing rice that is helping me sustain my family. I can say my living standards have improved and I have gained some respect among people in my village. When you are poor, nobody respects you, but I am happy GiveDirectly has helped me gain my respect back."

Colleta
received a $483 third payment.
"I spent 65,000 KES from my third transfer on a Printer with Inverter, and initiated a Walking Studio business. It happens that we topped up with 15,000 KES profit from a Retail shop business that we set up using my second transfer just a few months ago, and which has been doing consistently well. We had actually invested 25,000 KES in that shop business, but today we talk of working capital worth 50,000 KES. If things remain constant, then one year from now, my family will have made a major step even in terms of our living standard."

"I have been using a solar lamp for a long time and paying the bills were too much with my meager income and I had to go back to using paraffin lamp with was also not cost friendly. So when I received my third transfer, I connected my house to electricity. My house is now well lit. The remaining I spent on food for my family consumes."

"I spent my third transfer as top-up for constructing a second Fish Cage and stocking it with 2,000 fingerling seeds. I also bought fish pellets to feed them. This is a Project I started with my second transfer and so far I have 2 fish cages, with 4,000 fish fingerlings, though if I factor in mortality they may be reduced to 3,500 fish. The fish are growing well so I expect to start harvesting in January , when they will be mature and may be weighing averagely about 500 grams depending on how well I feed them and other factors. The reason I started the business is that I needed to invest in a venture that would eventually provide reasonable profit to enable me build a good house for myself in the near future. I always wanted to venture into this Project but did not have sufficient funds until GD supported me , thank you very much."
