Joyce
received a $537 initial payment.
"It was 6 am in the morning when I woke up and saw two messages confirming that I had received money from GiveDirectly. I had to re-confirm it by checking my M-Pesa balance. This made me so happy and I had to wake up my children and share with them the goodnews."

"My ambition has always been to become a driver. However, lack of enough money has made it impossible to pursue this dream. This is as a result of unsustainable source of income, because I depend solely on casual jobs such as burning charcoal. Therefore, I will use part of this transfer to enroll in a driving school. With this skill I can be able to acquire a stable job that will earn me decent income. I will also start a shop business at Guruguru trading center that will earn me more income. Having a consistent income will mean being able to meet family basic needs such as food and also saving extra cash. Through saving, I will enrolled my wife in a polytechnic since her ambition is to be a hairdresser."

"Life has been tough for us because our income is very low and this cannot sustain us in buying food on a daily basis for our family. At times I send my kids to go and get meals from my inlaws whenever we do not have food in our house and this really is a disgrace to us as a family."

"My income is very low and this has adversely affected my children's education as most of the times they keep on being sent home for school fees. At times they spend an entire month at home as I try to collect the little cash I get from my business in order to settle their school fees. "

Zilpher
received a $537 initial payment.
"The biggest difference in my life is that I'm able to earn good money from the clothes business which I expanded with my first transfer. This has enabled me clear a debt on a piece of land which my late spouse had incurred. I have fenced it too with the income I have earned from the business. I am very hopeful that with the steps I have made, I will soon secure a safer house than the one I am currently hosted in."

Phoebe
received a $537 initial payment.
"The biggest difference in my daily life is that I have become more productive because I am able to do most activities like farm work, lifting heavy loads among others which I couldn't do before with the fracture that I got from the accident mentioned earlier. In most cases, I could strain my children a lot with most of the activities which weren't healthy considering their young ages and the time needed for their school work. The endless strenuous work that I kept on delegating to them made them develop a negative attitude towards work and even destroyed my relationship with them. All they could do whenever I was around was to seek for hiding places far away from home. I am so happy and heartily grateful for GD for restoring my health."

Esther
received a $537 initial payment.
"The biggest difference in my daily life is the joy and pride I have because my children are able to get enough time for their studies without the challenge of lacking kerosene and sharing a small tin lamp thus they have improved in-class work performance. My daughter who used to score lower grade in class managed to score high in the final primary examination and I relate this to the solar lamp that enabled her to carrry on with her studies without limitations."

Rodgers
received a $22 eighth payment.
"I I am planning to have a new house for myself which is the most important thing for me and once I achieve it within the mentioned time frame then I think I will have made a change in my life. I expect that in the not so distant future, I should be able to get a suitable lady and settle in marriage but then I cannot marry while still living in my fathers house so getting my own house remains a top priority for me."
