Stanley
received a $453 second payment.
"Life is different than it would have been because I have an iron sheet roofed house to sleep in, a bicycle to ease my movement in the village, and this brings me happiness. Re-furnishing a house roof with grass has become really hard due to scarcity of roofing grass these days, and I used to move long distances on foot."

William
received a $453 second payment.
"My life is different than it would have been because when I go out of home, I come back and find food and water readily available, thanks to a wife I married. In addition, I sleep on a bed and mattress comfortably. Before, I used to come back after labouring, start looking for water and cook for myself, then sleep on very uncomfortable floor with a mat. "

"My husband burns charcoal in the forest where he stays up to one year. He supports the family with 1000 shillings a month which is supposed to meet all the basic needs. Since this amount is not sufficient, I also burn charcoal in the village though it is illegal. This earns me 400 shillings which mostly caters for food. I tend to neglect educational costs that have led to the accumulation of 5000 shillings debt. I can therefore say that financial instability is my biggest hardship."

"My husband works as a casual labourer at a construction site and earns less than 3000 shillings a month. This is because the job is not stable as it is available seasonally. He is the sole breadwinner and I am a housewife who depends on him for everything. Life is quite difficult because the money he earns is not sufficient enough to care for a family of six. Sometimes we are forced to go without food when does not get any job. Besides, it is almost impossible to respond to medical needs and school fees for our children. In this regard, I can say financial constraint is my biggest hardship."

"My husband died over twenty years ago and left me with three children. I was later inherited by his brother whom we sired another 3 children together, but the marriage did not work and I had to raise them singlehandedly. Being a widow who depends solely on subsistence farming and casual jobs, I could not meet their needs with ease. In fact none of the first five children managed to complete primary education due to lack of school fees. My desire is to educate my last born son who is currently in standard eight, up to college so that he can secure formal employment. This will enable him to fend for himself without much difficulty and also take care of me in my old age. Therefore, I will purchase livestock which I will use to finance his education in secondary and tertiary levels. I can say that receiving this transfer means that generational poverty will come to an end in this family."

Christine
received a $453 second payment.
"My life has improved now in that, I have a peace of mind because I have been able to purchase what I lacked in my household like Livestock, pay school fees and requirements for my children. In addition to that I have also started the construction of my house using these transfers. Before receiving these transfers, I lived a hard life of providing for the family since my husband never bothered to provided for the household. He left all the responsibility to me alone."

John
received a $460 second payment.
"My life has totally improved in that, I bought a motor bike. With this, I operate a boda-boda transport business which makes for me a total income of at least UGX 15000 daily and it's a service to my community. Before, I used to depend on agriculture which was very unreliable due to prolonged drought in some seasons. This usually resulted into famine and suffering."
