"My life is different in that I started a small scale business of fresh fish that fetches well in this side since most of the people take fish as their favourite meal. This business has become a source of income to my household and a form of employment to me and other two people who help me in fish frying. I have a hope for each day as the little profits that I make from it gives me the potential to buy food to my family and even pay their school fees. I bought a cow that is soon calving and eventually will provide me with milk and ghee. The money that I have been spending to budget for milk could therefore be saved and used to meet other needs likes clothes. I managed to put one hectare of land onto sugarcane farming which I believe that in the next one and a half years will be harvested and add to my financial security. I stocked food in my house that will push me though to the next four months when the harvest will be ready. I am a person of worth and not a beggar. I can socialize with dignity and vigor. Thanks to GiveDirectly transfers."

"My life is so different in that I bought a donkey that I use for transport business within and outside the community. I usually transport farm harvest like maize and arrowroot that are grown in places that are inaccessible by other means of transportation like vehicles. People have preferred my services being that they are reliable and cost effective. A day hardly passes without being invited to take up a duty which in turn is a source of income. I am able to provide for my family's basic needs without going around looking for casual labor like before. I invested some part of the transfer in arrow roots farming. Arrowroot does well in the wetlands where I own a piece of land and there is ready market both locally and upcountry. I have hope in life with better ways of income due to the transfers I received. Thanks to GiveDirectly."

"My life is currently different from how it was in that I do not strain so much to get money. Initially, I could get meagre pay from weeding people's sugarcane plantation for long hours. During this period, I acquired a lot of debts since the casual jobs were unreliable and could not be enough to sustain my family. The little that I got from the casual jobs could be spent on food and paying the debts. Right now, I can afford to visit my relatives easily using the motorcycle that I use as a taxi to get income. I rarely take loans from people since I started receiving transfers from Give Directly hence the good relationship with my neighbours and relatives has also improved."

This will help her pay school fees for others without much struggle as it has been the case."

"My life is different than it would have been if I never received the transfer because we are leading a better family as a family. This is because we have our own shop that serves as a reliable source of income. More so, it is a source of employment to me - being a shopkeeper. Hence, I am less worried about what to do to earn a living unlike before when I used to handle tedious activities like weeding."

"My life is different than it would have been if I never received the transfer since I now much relieved after clearing fee arrears for my two children who are at secondary school. As a single parent (widow), caring, feeding and educating my children has been a challenge. Thus, receiving the financial boost from GiveDirectly meant a lot to me - I am now less stressed or worried about paying school fees for my children. I used the transfers to pay fees for the whole year for the two children. Thanks a lot GiveDirectly."

"I have a long term of keeping chicken in a large quantity but the only thing that I am missing at the moment is the structure where I will be keeping them. So for me right now i am planning of savings every single month so that I can be able to get the structure and start off the project. I know that once the project gets rolling their numbers will increase significantly and most probably I will be in a position to sel, out some of them in the future and make some little cash."
