received a $249 second payment.
"I believe my living standards will have improved in the next six months because I will be earning an additional source of income through the poultry business. I know the business will have picked by then because I will have done enough marketing and learned the ropes of the business."

Christina
received a $520 second payment.
"My life is different from how it would in that I was able to pay school fees arrears that had accumulated over time. It had reached a point where we were planning to sell a piece of our land to cater for all the expenses I had. I can't express my joy for retaining my piece of land because of the help I receive from Give Directly. I am glad that my son would be finishing school next year, this means my expenses will have reduced and I will have enough money to start other projects before I think of taking him to college."

received a $520 second payment.
"My life is different in that I was already planning to sell a piece of land in order to pay my children's school fees. I had tried all means of getting the money that would enable me to pay my children's school fees but in vain. So the idea of selling a piece of my land came in. But just in time, Give Directly came in and I was able to save my land. I am also a proud owner of an Ironed roofed house for the first time! Owning such a house was only a dream for me and I am happy that Give Directly made it a possibility."

"The biggest hardship I face is lack of farm land. Iam unable to maintain my family well in terms of health , education and feeding since I produce little every season due to lack of land. My family members fall sick constanlty because of insufficient dietary feeding."

"My plan is to spend the transfers for purchasing animals like cows and a bicycle. I will give part of these cows to my in-laws as dowery such that our marriage is formalised traditionally. The bicycle will be source of transport since I intend to start planting and selling tomatoes within near by markets. The money realised from selling tomatoes I will spend to provide basic needs like health, education and shelter for my family members. "

"My spouse is an orphan and during the period of our marriage, he had to sell two acres of land. This was intended to raise money for dowery that was given to my parents. My family has limited land to cultivate crops. Iam able to produce little from farming because of no land. Therefore my priority is to first obtain farm land with this money. I will be in position to increase on crop production that can sustain my family."

"The biggest hardship that I am faced with is inadequacy of farm land.
I am depending on what my late father-in-law offered for my household.
I have not yet got a chance to buy more because I can not afford. I do not have money.
It is through cultivation that I am able to feed my family and also take care of all other needs yet the available piece of land is not enough.
The food produced is usually not enough for my household to survive so sometimes I do casual labour in order to raise some money that can support. "

"When I receive this money, I will buy some piece of land that will help us in agriculture. We do not have sufficient land that we can grow crops for sell and food consumption. I will also buy 2 bulls and an ox-plough to help in clearing the fields. We have been hiring ploughing services from other people which is costly. But when we get our own, we shall be able to save some money that will be used in other home utilities. I will also buy household items like beddings, clothings and utensils to improve on our home."

"Receiving this money means buying oxen that I will use to support in opening land for crop cultivation. I will sell part of the produce for paying my children's school fees and the balance will be consumed at home. Currently, I hire bulls which is very costly and even then, you will get when it is very late for the season."

"The biggest hardship I have faced in my life is illness. I am living HIV positive and this has weakened me physically to participate wholesomely in agriculture prompting me to sometimes hire labour."
