Jane
received a $450 second payment.
"I am currently a happily married and settled woman as this transfer helped my husband to appreciate my parents through the bride price that he gave them. (This is part of my culture that dowry has to be given to the lady's family). Prior to receiving this money, my parents always demanded that I go back home since my husband had failed to properly marry me."

Kadzo
received a $530 initial payment.
"For quite a long time, I have always dreamed and wanted to start a business but I had no capital to start with. The greatest difference, therefore, is the fact that I now have a business! When I received the transfer from Give Directly I was able to start buying goats from around the village and selling them on Wednesdays during market days for profit. I am glad the business is doing well and through this, am now able to cater for my family's daily needs more comfortably."

Christine
received a $449 second payment.
"My life has changed alot ever since I received the cash transfer. I dress well and eat on time because I can afford nice meals and other basic needs. I spent the cash transfer to start up a produce business and I am very happy that it is earning profits. These profits have enabled me sustain my family and afford other necessities. Previously, I was at home depending on agriculture after my business collapsed. I could not raise enough money to revamp the business. Nevertheless, I am glad that I am back on my feet and the business is booming. I would not have achieved this without the GiveDirectly cash transfer."

Weldon
received a $22 sixteenth payment.
"My life will be different in the next six months since I will have transplanted my tea seedlings in the farm. When they grow, I will be plucking the green tea leaves and supply them to our nearest factory so that I can be earning an income every month. In addition to this, my poultry project will be running smoothly and I will be saving the income generated from this project. My main aim at this point will be to start a business using my savings though I have not fully decided on the business to start as I still have so many business ideas and I am still weighing on their viability."

Kadzo
received a $530 initial payment.
"Owning the five goats is the biggest difference in my daily life so far. I am hoping very soon they will multiply because currently, some have started reproducing. My wish is to exchange the offsprings for a dairy cow, this is because the dairy cow is very expensive and I could not afford to purchase it in the first place when the first transfer came since I had some other needs to cater to. I hope that when I buy a dairy cow I will be getting milk from it, for my family consumption and also for sale. Thus, I will get an income that will help me in paying school fees for my children and also cater to some other basic needs for my family."

Alex
received a $450 second payment.
"My life is much better because I have acquired livestock with the second cash transfers. I am also pursuing a driving course so that I can secure a driving job. I am now socially respected in the community because I dress decently and act responsible compared to the past where I could dress in old wrinkled clothes and I was idle at home. I am very grateful to GiveDirectly for the cash transfers."

Alfred
received a $450 second payment.
"My life has improved in that, I'm happy since I bought an ox and construction materials. In the past, I used to work in other people's agricultural land in order to have my own land ploughed. But this won't be the case again since I can now plough with my own ox that will plough together with my brother's. In addition, I will soon be relieved from the hardships associated with renovating a grass thatched house since I will be constructing an iron roofed house."

Kadii
received a $515 second payment.
"My life is different because I was able to buy two cows which we now use to cultivate our farm using the ox-plow machine which we also purchased using the same transfers. I know that going into the future, it will be impossible for us to leave the land lying fallow for a long period like we used to do in the past due to lack of enough finances and working tools."
