"Being a single mother and an orphan, life has not been easy for me. I don't have a constant source of finances to cater not only for the needs of my four children but also those of my sibling who is in college. The bigget hardship I have is that I rely on casual labor such as cleaning, digging and weeding in other people's houses and farms so that I can get some money to feed, cloth and educate my children and sister. These odd jobs are hard to find given the irregular weather patterns we have in our area."

"Being a polygamous household, our spouse struggles in providing for both of us. My co- wife has two children studying in college and two in secondary school. Our husband spends most of his income that comes from engaging in casual jobs in paying their schoolfees. On my side, i feel neglected since i got needs that he terms as unnecesarry. I have ended up working as a nanny for a neighbour who is a tutor in a school nearby so as to earn some income to enable me provide food for my three children despite the fact that i have a two months old baby. This is the biggest hardship i have faced"

"Receiving this money means that I will buy oxen for ploughing. With oxen, one can plough a bigger portion of the garden compared to using handhoes. My family also does not have enough household items. Therefore, part of this money will be used to purchase items like beddings, cooking utencils, etc. If at all there is a balance left, I will also buy goats which can be sold in times that the family needs money for treatment in case a family member falls sick."

"Receiving this money means I will be able to buy oxen that will support in farming and build an iron roofed house.
A grass thatched house is hard to maintain these days the fact that grass is scarce. "

"Lack of finances is and always has been a headache in our family. After completing my primary education, I could not proceed further with my education and I ended up getting married out of frustration. Luckily, a friend taught me how to sew but I have not been able to practice this skill because I could not afford to buy a sewing machine. Later, another friend trained me to plait hair but I do not earn much from this because I do it from home and only depend on walk ins recommended by neighbors and friends which are very few. My husband's casual work also pays less than two dollars a day which cannot sustain all our needs of food, water and education for my children."

"My biggest hardship is lack of enough farm land in order to cultivate food crops that my household will survive on. I do some business which enables me to pay school fees for the children and hire some land to cultivate but is is not able to sustain both. Where I live in now is a plot I bought after separating with my spouse ten years ago leaving me with five children that I am struggling with to educate."

"My husband and I always set development goals for our family each year. Last year we decided on replacing the mud walls of our house with blocks to make it last longer. Unfortunately, our funds ran out as we opted to pay fees for our daughter who was joining secondary school and to date the project is at a standstill. We have been working tirelessly to raise money to complete the work but our incomes are not sufficient enough to complete this as well as meet other needs of food and education. This is our biggest hardship."
