"Growing up, my mother at that time had no value in education. She was a brewer and an alcoholic as well. She neither facilitated my education nor motivated me to it. Eventually I dropped out in primary school in standard three. Life has since been hard because without her care I had to struggle so as to fend for my needs at a tender age. I do not have any skills which can give me a decent job thanks to illiteracy. "

"I have a family of six. Sometimes I feel overwhelmed to provide for the unlimited necessities for all of us. At the moment we all live in a hut which has become uncomfortable for both the children, my wife and I. Money I earn from my motorcycle business daily caters for each day's meals with naught to save thus making us live from hand to mouth. My worry has been a possibility of not being able to pay for my children's education in future. "

Geofrey
received a $481 third payment.
"I spent part of my transfer on putting up a chicken coop. I had a poultry structure but it was not in good condition because the structure was small and congested which was not good for the birds' health and growth. I used the remaining amount to build an eskew back at home since I did not have one. I finally used the remaining amount of money to add more equipment and food for my poultry project. I am determined to make sure that my birds are ok because I have a ready market in December and I would not want to lose them before then."

"I spent part of my transfer to boost my business. I normally operate an entertainment room where parents and children come to enjoy themselves by playing various games using the play station. I had the machines but they needed repair and so I decided to use the whole of the amount to repair them. They are now back on track and do not hang a lot like they used to. We normally depend on this business to take care of our daily needs and this is why I had to make sure that the machines run well."

"Currently, my life is currently different from how it was in that I have become independent. My income has increased because I left selling water and started a new business of selling pudding. I have been able to get more income as compared to before hence able to take care of my needs easily. Nowadays I don't take loans from my friends like I used to do."

Onyango
received a $481 third payment.
"Currently, my life is different from how it was in that, I have my own business which I depend on. Previously, I could do casual jobs like construction work in order to take care of my needs. I am the firstborn and had to look for ways of surviving because I could not depend on my parents since they are unemployed. Mostly when I did not have money, I ended up lending but repaying was a problem due to low income that I could get from casual jobs. I thank GiveDirectly because I have been able to handle my budgets with ease."

"My plan is to buy oxen and ox-plough for ploughing. I have been using an hand hoe as the only source of labour and this is not good enoug for increase production. I fetch very little through crop farming because of this and is not supportive to sustain the needs of my family. Once I get my oxen and ox-plough it will maximize crop production for sustainability."
