"From the little income I make, two dollars a day, from my business of preparing 'chapati' and damplines, I cannot sufficiently meet the needs in my household such as food and school fees for my children. As a result, we sometimes are not able to afford a meal or two and my children are frequently sent away from school to collect fee balances. The most affected being my first born girl in secondary school whose fees are higher than her five siblings still in primary school. "

"The biggest hardship I have faced is ensuring that my family is fed without a source of income. My spouse and I are very old and even though we have children who may support us,we cannot fully depend on them because they also have families of their own to fend for.We therefore have to struggle in the farm so that from it we can get albeit enough for each day."

"I have a son who has a rare medical condition which I personally do not know the exact name.Whenever he falls sick the temperature rises to a very high level. This usually needs immediate attention. He also develops wounds along the throat. It has cost us a lot since we have been in and out of hospital.Sometimes we cannot afford medical fees and we are forced to use herbal medicine. The condition began at the age of 2 years. He is now 6 years old and there is little positive change. The frequency of his ilness has reduced but whenever it arises he cannot even go to school for a week or sometimes more..This has affected his studies. This has stressed me a lot as a parent but I have hope that one day he will heal completely. This is the biggest hardship I have faced in my life."

"Unfavorable climatic conditions have been the biggest hardship in my life. Fresh water is a precious commodity, and lack of it can pose unimaginable consequences. At the moment, we receive dismal amounts of rainfall year in year out. This has led to poor crop production, unproductive livestock farming and wastage of resources in purchasing food and water. This has been a great hurt to our already struggling economic stability. The baskets of needs keep enlarging every day and with no reliable sources of income, that explains the extent of constraining we are faced with as a family. With these transfers coming our way, it is a sign of relief because the issue of water shortage will be addressed once I successfully build water reservoirs and it will lead to economic growth. Hopefully, I will be able to venture into agriculture with much ease and I believe the question food insecurity will be ultimately addressed."

"Ten years down the line, the biggest hardship that has been a bother to me is having to engage in casual jobs in people's farms in order to earn a living despite my old age, due to drought and unpredictable rainfall patterns. This is unlike in the past where i could harvest more yields in my farm and we had plenty to feed on as well as more for sale. This has been the greatest challenge i face in life"

"With an incessant increasing population, size of land for farming has continued to decline. This has massively hampered food production resulting in food insecurity, not to mention a soil borne disease that has condemned the community to food shortage over the last decade. As for my case, I have six children and with no employment nor a source of income. It has become so hard by day to put food on the table. My biggest worry is that the ripple effects are going to greatly take a toll on their education thus making them drop out of school. This is the biggest hardship I've faced in my life. "
