Describe the biggest difference in your daily life.
Before receiving our first transfer, my family used to take one or two meals a day but am glad since we currently take three meals a day. This is because our transfers enabled us to buy a stock of food. Also, we were able to practice time cultivation this last year unlike other years. Due to this, I am hopeful of a good harvest that will last us till next harvesting season.
Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
It was around 5 am when my wife came to my room and informed me that GiveDirectly had sent us the promised money. I thought she was joking at first but seeing how happy she was made me to believe. I was so happy and all smiles on that day as I knew that some of my dreams were finally being fulfilled.
What did you spend your first transfer on?
When I received my first transfer, I took part of it and used in farming. I bought some maize seeds and hired a tractor for land preparation and planting purposes. Since my wife did not have a decent kitchen, I spent some amount to build her one. I bought enough materials and paid the full cost of labor. I spent the remaining amount in my home improvement. I bought enough food and wire mesh to use in fencing my garden.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
Receiving this money means that I will be able to complete building my house.I built a small wooden house but was not able to plaster the floor due to insufficient funds. With the remainder,I will build a new kitchen since the one we are using is quite old and also buy a heifer as a way of investing the money
What is the happiest part of your day?
In the morning, after taking breakfast,I take my two cows out to graze. While they are grazing ,I embark on any available work on my farm;be it fencing, weeding, planting or ploughing. Most of these work strains and tires me out,but I have to work.In the afternoon,I return home and my wife will have prepared a meal which we share and rest.Having this moment of rest makes afternoon the happiest part of my day
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
The biggest hardship I have faced is ensuring that my family is fed without a source of income. My spouse and I are very old and even though we have children who may support us,we cannot fully depend on them because they also have families of their own to fend for.We therefore have to struggle in the farm so that from it we can get albeit enough for each day.
