How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
My life is different than it would have been if I never received the transfer that I will not have been in a position to buy a dairy cow. I depend on casual jobs in the village and saving money to buy a dairy cow was not easy.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
GiveDirectly does well by giving us money to buy basic needs that we were lacking. I do not find anything that GiveDirectly did not do well.
What did you spend your second transfer on?
I spend my second transfer on buying building materials ready to build a poultry house. I am planning on starting poultry to earn an income by selling eggs at the market. I also bought two dairy cows and the rest of the money I used it to buy food and utensils.

Describe the biggest difference in your daily life.
I struggle each day to make sure that my family has a happy and healthy life thus making sure that we have access to basic needs is my priority. In our area, getting clean water is a problem given that we have to go far to fetch water in a river. Apart from my family being at risk of contracting water-borne diseases, this situation had put me in deep stress since it was time-consuming and straining to fetch enough water in a day for my family use. Currently, my life has greatly changed in that my family now has access to clean water for consumption and domestic use. I used my transfer to buy a water tank and I currently do not go to the river to fetch water like before. I am happy that I have saved my family from the risk of water-borne diseases and I can relax too. I feel this water tank has given me the biggest difference in my daily life ever and am thankful to GiveDirectly.
Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
I realized that GiveDirectly had sent me the promised money in the morning after waking up. My heart was filled with happiness after realizing this since I knew that I would be able to use the money to achieve my heart's desire.
What did you spend your first transfer on?
I bought a wire mesh to use in fencing my compound using part of my first transfers. I settled on this so that when I start a poultry keeping project, my chicken will not be moving to the farms and destroy my crops. Also, I bought a water tank to use in storing rainwater during the rainy seasons. This will save me hustles of going to the river to fetch water every day even during the rainy seasons. I used the remaining amount to buy two sacks of maize flour and decent clothes for my family.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
Receiving this money means adding one dairy cow to my herd whose milk will be my daily source of income to support in buying other healthy food stuffs for my family. I also plan to purchase a 300 litre water tank that will be of great use of fetching water during rainy seasons.
What is the happiest part of your day?
Spending most of my day time in the scorching sun doing farming is what makes my day a tiresome one but my joy comes in the evening since its the time i take rest as i chat with my grand children at home after a long day
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
Ten years down the line, the biggest hardship that has been a bother to me is having to engage in casual jobs in people's farms in order to earn a living despite my old age, due to drought and unpredictable rainfall patterns. This is unlike in the past where i could harvest more yields in my farm and we had plenty to feed on as well as more for sale. This has been the greatest challenge i face in life
