Winnie
received a $22 tenth payment.
"My wish is that the entire house will have been plastered in the next six months so that when the project ends, will we have something to be proud of having achieved with our transfers. I know that when the project ends, it will be tough making enough saving to buy the required materials to plaster the house, so we need to do all we can to complete the plastering before then."

"My biggest hardship is lack of finances. After being diagnosed with tuberculosis, the doctor advised that I do not engage in any strenuous activity. I therefore cannot work and has to be provided for by my two sons who do casual work in Mombasa. With their own families to support, they cannot meet all my needs, for example the medication required for my condition because it is quite expensive. So far they have only been able to buy medicine to last a month yet the prescription was for 6 months. "

"A respectable house for my family is what receiving this money means to me. Currently, I am living in a small house whose condition is pathetic and it's just braving the strong wind of this area. With this challenge, I am still forced to live in this house together with my co-wife and some of our children while others spend their nights in my neighbor's house. My plan is to construct a spacious one which will be comfortable for the family, something that will earn me the respect that I have lost for long. This will change my livelihood, a transition that I have wished for long."

John
received a $194 initial payment.
"I spent a larger portion of my transfer on purchasing a manual sugar cane crusher. I want to to start selling sugar cane juice and fruits as well. From my research that I have done for three weeks, most of the people have not ventured into this business. From the place that I picked this idea, it is always flocked with customers because they like fresh and natural drinks. Right now I am a painter, a job which is normally unreliable because I am not attached to any company. Having my own business will guarantee me a daily income and this is why I am determined to have the business up and running."

Silvester
received a $194 initial payment.
"The biggest difference in my daily life is that I am now stress-free. The money came at a time that I had many financial difficulties. I had to pay school fees for my child who had been sent home due to fee arrears, pay rent and hire a plumbing machine for my work. The transfer came as a relief on my side since it sorted out most of the financial challenges that I had and for which I did not know how to sort them out."

"I spent a large portion of my transfer on starting a business of selling t-shirts. Unfortunately, I was harassed by the County Askaris and they took all my stock. I have gone back to casual jobs but I have not lost hope about my business. I have hopes of going back to the business because after tasting the benefits, this is what I still want to do. I intend to comply with all the necessary requirements that will enable me to operate the business without any form of interference."

received a $194 initial payment.
"I spent part of my transfer to buy a second-hand sewing machine. It has always been my wish to have my own sewing machine so as to stop hiring for a few hours. It would be inconveniencing also when the machine could be engaged when I needed to use it most. Today I save on time that I could use moving up and down when I went to hire the machine and the profits have increased because I have my own and do not hire any more. I also managed to boost my second-hand clothes business. I am glad that it is doing well. Besides boosting my business, I managed to keep the remaining amount of money as savings. I just hope to use the savings to boost my two businesses next month in order to keep them up and running and improve our living standards as a family."

Stephen
received a $194 initial payment.
"The biggest difference in my daily life is that I now have my own business. Out of the profits that I have already made, I have been able to take care of my needs easily unlike before when I could struggle to fix every need with the little that I got from casual jobs. Today, I have even learned the art of prioritizing my needs and what is most important for my business to succeed."

"I except to save most of these transfers in the next six months for my grandchild's high school education since she ought to join next year. Therefore, I feel it is important to start early because my main aim is to give her a quality education."
