Describe the biggest difference in your daily life.
I had a plan to build a more decent spacious house for my family for so long or even renovate the current one a dream that I never saw it coming true since I was not able to raise the full amount needed. When I received my first transfer, I could not hesitate any longer in achieving this goal as I immediately commenced the construction work. Currently, I feel happier than before since I am almost fulfilling my dream. I believe that my family will soon be living in our newly built house and this has always made my heart be at peace.
Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
I knew that GiveDirectly had sent me the promised money early in the morning as I was going through my daily routine. I became so happy at that instant as I knew that I would be able to build a decent house for my family using this money.
What did you spend your first transfer on?
When I received my first transfer, I used part of it to buy some building materials majorly iron sheets, timber, and nails. I also paid a mason the full cost of constructing a spacious house for my family. I settled on this since the one we were living in was small and old. I had for so long desired to renovate it but I had not been able to meet the full cost due to overwhelming family needs. I used the remaining amount to buy two sacks of maize flour and other foodstuffs for my family.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
Receiving this money will enable me to build an extra house for my grandchildren.I live with five grandchildren and therefore the current house is not enough for all of us.My grandchildren also need school fees. This money will really help with that. The remaining part of the money will help me buy food
What is the happiest part of your day?
I spend most of the time just relaxing in the compound. My body is not strong enough to do most of the duties. The happiest part of my day is in the evening. Its always good seeing the day end well.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
I live with my daughter who has 5 children and taking care of them all has been the biggest hardship. My daughter is a casual labourer and therefore the money she gets is not enough to feed us all.I feel that it is my responsibility since they live at my home. Two of my grandchildren are in secondary school while another one is expected to join next year.I depend on agriculture as a source of income but for now I am not strong enough to farm because of my age.I have back pains and chest problems.I hardly do anything.
