"I have a huge piece of land and the problem as always been the means of cultivation. I haven't been able to fully utilize it because I depend on oxen for hire which many farmers within also depend on, so by the time I'm getting the service, am already late for planting and this has led to dismal yields year in year out. My biggest desire is to purchase a pair so that I can be able to timely cultivate and subsequently produce better yields. I believe this will lead to food security in my household and the surplus will be sold to the outside market thus earning an income. Apart from that, I plan to invest in the hotel business. This will earn me a daily income that can comfortably meet the needs of the family. I also intend to put some money in Merry-go-round as a way of saving and that is what receiving this money means to me."

"Food insecurity is my biggest hardship because of the low rainfall we have been experiencing lately. We therefore get little harvest which can only last 1 to 2 months unlike when the rains are good, we get food that can last us up-to a whole year. This forces us to spend more money buying food from shops thus affecting provision of other basic needs such as education. "

"My dream in life is to own a chemistry business. At first, I have been doing this business in casual basis as an employee for another person. Receiving this money means I will be able to start my own chemistry because I have the experience, I will be able to earn enough income to cater to my family basic needs. Also to educate my children."

"Being a single mother I have no one to help me raise my two children.I therefore want to expand my sources of income inorder to help me raise them well.Buying a dairy cow is one of my priorities. The milk I get from the cow will ensure I get milk for sale and for consumption as well.I will also build a one bedroomed house. The one I live in will remain as a kitchen while the other one will give me enough space to host visitors in a decent way and a bedroom for that matter. My current house is only one room."

"I have for a long time depended on crop farming to earn me income but it has been very unreliable. This is due to long dry spells and crop diseases.I get little harvest which does not sustain the family's needs. For example for a long time I have wanted to build a better house but all my money goes into buying food. With the money from Give Directly I want to slowly switch to dairy farming to see if things can be better. "It is my expectation that in the next six months I shall have cemented the floor of my house. I want to work towards making sure that the floor of my house is cemented for easier maintenance and to move away from the mess that comes with living in a dusty place like respiratory diseases and the common cold. I am more determined than ever to realize my goals."

"Living in this small piece of land with all of our families i.e. each of my three brothers-in-law and their families as well as their parents has always been the biggest hardship I have faced. There is always conflict mostly about the land we do our farming in.It is hardly enough to feed us and we have been forced to do casual jobs to substitute it.I have always wished that I could get some money so that my family can move out and have our own but this has been made impossible by the fact that what I get from casual jobs directly goes to buying food and other needs and I do not get to save"
