"The cash transfers have transformed my life from a state of nothingness to a very comfortable state. I constructed a three roomed permanent house that accommodates the family. In the past, we had five thatched houses which were very hard to maintain due to the scarcity of grass and timber. I am the happiest person because I have achieved alot with the cash transfers."

"I have been working as a tailor for a long time in a rented premise, which has been my major source of income. My biggest ambition was to one day build a premise for my business to relieve me the monthly rental costs. I tried to save some money for this but I could not achieve it due to the overwhelming family needs. I felt my dream was fulfilled when I received my first transfer. I managed to buy building materials which include poles, timber sand and cement to facilitate construction of a shop. I am happy that I will no longer be paying rent upon its completion. In addition, I also managed to buy a new sewing machine to replace the old one and this has made my work easier as well as serving a larger number of customers. To me, these two achievements make the biggest difference in my daily life since they give hope of a better income and more saving than I do currently."

"For the past five years,we have not had any maize harvest. This is due to a disease which destroyed the crop and kept recurring year after year.Maize farming is what my family depends mostly on both for food and as a source of income. That period was a very difficult one for us because we had to do casual jobs in order to get enough money to buy maize from local traders. The prices also went up because there was a high demand and the supply was very low.During this time,we only worked for food and it was difficult to meet all the other household needs. This is the biggest hardship I have faced"
