"Receiving this money means I can buy a plot of land to build my home. I currently don't have my own share of land to cultivate in my marital home. This is because the elder wife has taken possession of all the spouse's land."

"Receiving this money means owning a permanent iron roofed house. This will improve on my living standard and reduce the burden of buying the thatching material always. I am running a small business which is sensitive, owning a permanent house reduces the risk of theives.
I will pay my children's school fees in a timely manner. That will make their attendance regular which will improve on their grades at school for better results. My children have been sent out of school due non timely payment of school fees."

"The biggest hardship that I face is inadequate income for the household. I depend on income from farming as my main source but itbis not reliable due to pests and diseases which affects crop yields. This has lead to shortage of food because so I have to sell some in order to meet medicak bills pay school fees for my children. This exposes the household to famine hence giving rise to opportunistic infections."

received a $250 second payment.
"My expectation in the next six months is that my life will change to be better. I believe my business will have picked up so well and so will cease working on casual labour for pay. My dairy cow will have also calved and that means I will no longer spend much on purchasing milk for my household consumption. I will also generate more income from the sale of surplus milk. Generally, I believe the wellbeing of my family will change to be better."

James
received a $39 twelfth payment.
"We were recently awarded a piece of land as a group by the Government through our area chief which was handed over to us last month. The instruction was that we make use of the land as soon as possible for our own benefits which is why I decided that I will construct a house on my portion of the land so that I can eventually quit paying rent which is my biggest challenge. Even though saving some of my transfers have always been a challenge, I now have to do my best to save so that I can construct a house on that portion as soon as possible. I am currently working hard to ensure I get a better paying job so that I can set aside my entire transfers to help with the purchase of the required construction materials which only consists of timber, nails and iron sheets."

Elizabeth
received a $39 twelfth payment.
"For a long time, I did not have any source of income and mostly depended on my relatives for financial support and my only desire then was to have a business to support my financial needs so that I would quit being a burden. With the savings I have been making from the monthly transfers I have been receiving from Give Directly, I was eventually able to open a cosmetics shop two months ago which I now want to focus on improving hence no additional goals at the moment."
