Sharon
received a $545 initial payment.
"I felt so happy the moment I received money from GiveDirectly. I saw an MPESA message and straight away went and bought a cow. I could not wait longer to make this dream come to pass. I felt that the money that I had received could be diverted into other uses other than the cow which was top in my priority list."

Janet

"My life is much better because I have paid off the debt and repossessed my farm land. In the next season, I plan to farm on a large scale compared to when I farmed on a small scale. Secondly, I was in position to buy building materials for building my permanent house. Currently, I am still sleeping in a leaking thatched house."

Cheronoh
received a $526 second payment.
"I have been hoping to build a nice and decent house to live in for long but due to the financial constraints I was facing, I could not fulfill this. The income I raise per day wasn't enough to cater for both household daily needs and construction of a new house. With GiveDirectly transfer, I managed to buy building materials which include iron sheets, nails, poles and bricks for this purpose. I am excited that soon I build a new house. I currently enjoy peace of mind since I no longer worry about how I will build a permanent house. This is a goal that it's possibility is seen. It gives me the biggest difference in my daily life."

Shadrack
received a $545 initial payment.
"I felt so happy the moment I received money from GiveDirectly. No amount of words can really express the amount of happiness that I had at that time. I took some minutes to say thank you to God for that miracle of the moment as I planned on how I was going to utilize the same to reap maximum benefits."

Hellen
received a $495 third payment.
"I was previously employed by a food vendor where I earned a daily income that was too little to cater to my needs. What I made was only enough for my rent and foodstuff and barely anything else. While I was working there, I learnt how to make potato chips and crisps which inspired me to start my current business. My life has greatly changed because I can now make enough money to fully take care of all my needs and still be able to support my family."

Betty
received a $545 initial payment.
"I majorly depend on subsistence farming which has not been doing well enough to cater for both household daily needs and any other goal in the family. I have children in various schools and my biggest ambition is to see them prosper in their education to allow them to have a better life in the future. Raising their school fees is challenging for me due to the limited resources in our family. When I received my first transfer I took KES20000 to help me process the admission of my child who was joining secondary school and ton cater for his fist term fee. I took another KES10000 to pay fee for my child in form two. I am so glad that my children are now set up working for a better life in the future in a humble environment. To me, raising this amount is the biggest difference in my daily life. It gives hope that I can always provide for my family."
