Carren
received a $547 initial payment.
"The biggest difference in my daily life is I have bought a dairy cow. I used to buy milk from my neighbors and it was so costly for me. I depend on small scale farming where I plant vegetables. The amount of money I could get from these casual jobs was so small and it could not gather for all the basic including paying school fees for my children in primary. I used to wake up early in the morning to look for a job and come back home late at night, this was denying me an opportunity to bond well with my children. When I received the money from GiveDirectly I bought a dairy cow. Currently, I no longer buy milk, I saved the money that I could have used to pay part of the school fees for my children. I no longer do much of the casual jobs and I have devoted my time to work on my own farm. My children no longer miss to have milk and they are so happy and very healthy. I am so much grateful for the support because it has made me have peace of mind which I didn't have before."

"The biggest difference in my life is that l am now using solar to light my house which is very convenient to my family and of a great help to my children when they are studying as compared to before when they were using tin lump. Solar has also become like a source of income because I use it to charge phones for people and get money for my up keep, which was not the case before. The better part of it is that I no longer spend money to buy parrafin which was very costly. I am also now staying in a nice spacious comfortable house where my farming are comfortable move freely in the house, as compared to before everything had to be put in one corner to creat space."

received a $528 second payment.
"The biggest difference in my life is that I now have a stable reliable source of Income. I managed to buy a dairy cow and fortunately it has started producing milk. Of which l sell some milk in our local market and some for my family consumption. Since the milk has started getting me some income, my family has never gone to bed hungry. We are able to at least meet our daily needs. I am also very sure of getting enough yield since I hired tractor at the right time to cultivate my farm, as compared to before when I was using an oxen plough which was taking to long to complete cultivating and this was leading to late planting and poor harvesting. "The piece of land that we are currently living in does not belong to us, and any time the owner might want to evict us. This has been our biggest concern, and because our meager income cannot meet the cost of purchasing a land, we are left at the mercies of the owner. Therefore, receiving this will make us land proprietors. This will be a dream come true because this is something that we have been yearning to achieve for far too long. For this reason, we intend to spend our first transfer on it. Additionally, I will start a grocery store using the second transfer. We have limited stores within the area and one has one walk for kilometers to acquire basic food items. I will, therefore, leverage on that to generate additional income for my household. And that is what receiving this money means to me."
