Mercy
received a $526 initial payment.
"I spent my first transfer to buy some building materials to use in building a spacious house for my family. I settled on this since I did not have a house and I was living in my brothers house. I am glad because I currently live in my own house and I can do anything freely without seeking for anyone's approval. Also, I bought barbed wire and poles to use in fencing my farm. Due to this, I no longer have to worry about livestock destroying my crops in the farm. I spent the remaining amount to buy some clothes and food for my family."

Kache
received a $526 initial payment.
"The biggest difference in my life is the fact that I now own a dairy cow, I was longing to have one but due to financial difficulties couldn't but after the financial support from GiveDirectly I managed to purchase one. I settled in buying ut because it has numerous benefits compared to any other livestock. One it produced plenty of milk, which will be for commercial purposes and for my family consumption. One it will start producing the milk, I will be supplying them to the nearest local markets in town and the money I will be acquiring, I will ave it and start some other projects. My family will also enjoy the milk as well and this will be like a surplus to their daily meals making them healthier. I am so grateful to GiveDirectly because I would have achieved all this."

Francis
received a $22 twenty-sixth payment.
"I expect my life to have improved because I will be having an income from selling milk. I intend to buy a heifer so that I do away with the issue of having to buy milk for household consumption. I need a lot of milk which is expensive because I have young children. When I get the money that I have been saving in merry go round group, I will buy a mature heifer, after calving, I will have solved my household expenditure on milk and will have created a source of income."

Leonard
received a $526 initial payment.
"The biggest difference in my daily life is that I am now a proud owner of a motorcycle. I would not have been able to achieve this at my own cost. Due to this, I have been able to provide for my family on time unlike before when I used to depend on any available casual work. its pay was always low and my family would at time go to bed without taking anything. I was always tired most of the time and I hardly had time for my family or to even work in my farm. I am now glad since I usually have enough time to rest, work on my farm and even bond with my family."

Janet
received a $526 initial payment.
"Having done all I was wishing to do with the money,I have been really happy that this transfer came at the right time. All the projects came out as we had expected bringing great difference in our household. The biggest difference in my daily life is the school fees payment for my son who had been at home for several months after lacking school fees. It was a great worry to us after several years of struggling to see him in school. We had lost hope thinking that there was no other way to raise money since we ad no assets to sell. We are grateful that GiveDirectly came in at the right time and now everyone is happy that things are finally moving on well."

Thabu
received a $526 initial payment.
"I spent part of my first transfer on buying some building materials such as sand, bags of cement and bricks. This was majorly for the renovating of my house since it was semi-permanent, I wanted it to be more decent. I then bought a pair of oxen purposely for my agricultural activities. In addition, I bought some new school uniforms for my children and cleared their fees in advance. To add on this I bought two mattresses to replace the old ones that I had been using. The remaining amount of money I am using it in buying some foodstuffs for my family."

Katsele
received a $526 initial payment.
"The major difference in my daily life is that I now own an ox that I acquired through the transfer I received from GiveDirectly. Had it not been this financial support, I wouldn't have managed to buy the oxen considering my poor financial status. I mainly depend on subsistence farming and I believe the bulls will help me in the early preparations of my farm as well as ploughing. I am hoping to fully cultivate and utilize my farm to get enough produce which will ensure food security to my family and I can as well sell the surplus and generate an income."
