"The biggest difference in my daily life that I can proudly mention is the fact that I am now a proud owner of some goats. I have really been aspiring to keep them in my compound but due to financial difficulties, I could not afford it. I settled in rearing them because they are cheap compared to some other domestic animals, they take little time to mature, and they require little supervision. My plan is when they reproduce and increase in number I will exchange the matured offspring for a dairy cow. And from that point, I am optimistic my life will never be the same again. This will empower me to start a business selling milk in the local markets so that I can send my children to school and take care of other basic needs without straining like before."

Saumu
received a $496 initial payment.
"I spent a larger portion on my first transfer on buying livestock such as two dairy cows and a few goats. I am very thankful for the financial support from GiveDirectly because it has always been my desire to own these assets. Finally, I achieved it. Also, with the remaining amount of money, I bought enough foodstuffs for my family that would take us a month's time."

"The biggest difference in my daily life is that I managed to renovate my house. Currently it is a permanent and a spacious one. I had been longing to renovate it for years but I could not afford it due to my low financial status. Previously it was in a poor state, the walls had cracks and a leaky roof. Whenever it rained especially when it was at night, we could not sleep till dawn. I now feel good as a parent I am now in a position to invite my friends unlike before whereby I felt embarrassed to invite them."

Halima
received a $496 initial payment.
"I spent part of my first transfer on buying some beddings which include a bed and a mattress. This was to replace the old torn mats which that I have been using for all those years. Aso, I bought some building materials which include, building poles, iron sheets, thread, timber, and nails. This was for the construction of a new semi-permanent house since the previous one had a leaky roof and in critical condition. I also bought five goats to keep them on my homestead and serve as living assets. With the remaining amount of money, I bought enough foodstuffs for my family"

"The biggest hardship in my life is lack of clean water for domestic use. I'm forced to walk 15km away to get water. Sometimes I even miss water to prepare a meal with."

"Receiving this money means food security to my family. I'm planning to use 100 dollars to buy food for my family. Furthermore I'll use 500 dollars to buy two pairs of ox-plough for improved food production in my farm. This will assure my family a consistent supply of food. Food is one of the basic necessities of life and it has been my desire to see my family consume different varieties of food for a healthy living. In addition to this, I'll use 200 dollars to prepare three more acres of family land so that I can have a total of eight acres to till."
