"I have missed my privacy for a very long time because my house is very small. I am forced to sleep in the same room with my grown up boys which is against our culture. I spent Ksh.30,000 to construct a two roomed iron sheet house for my family. I also spent $100 to clear the fee arrears for my children and the remaining amount I bought 2 goats which is our future investment for my family."

"Upon receiving the money, I spent 46,000KES of the first transfer on buying construction material. Since we had nothing planned for the construction before receiving the transfer, we had to purchase all materials ranging from iron sheets, woods, and also nails which consumed a total of 46000KES out of the total transfer. During the construction and transportation of all the materials, a total of 7000 KES was spent. We had to incur all this cost since our main goal was to ensure that the construction was completed. With the small amount we were still left with, we spent on purchasing household goods which were mainly foodstuff."

"After GiveDirectly visited our village, excitement was all over and everyone already knew that the guardian angels we had been expecting were finally in. We received them with high hopes and indeed a lot changed after. Looking back at the great work that GiveDirectly has done in our village - giving us unconditional cash without dictating to us what to spend on was the best part of it. To every human in our village, it has been a story to tell each time a visitor comes. This in my opinion was great and has always amazed many since it is unique only to this organization. On the flip side, we have never felt any negativity or an ill comment since every household got a share of the transfer by the time they were done."
