Kahindi

"Before the coming of GiveDirectly, I used to strain in paying school fees for my children and providing for their daily bread as well. Being the family's breadwinner, it wasn't easy for me because I only depended on the causes jobs whereby I could be paid on commission. Therefore most of the time some of my children could stay home for weeks before they could resume back becaus of the huge fees balances. I am now having a huge relief in my life after acquiring the morticcle, life has been smooth. I am now in a position to pay school fees in advance to avoid distractions and I no longer strain in meeting my family needs. This is becasue the motorcycle business is doing well with good returns. Courtesy of GiveDirectly."

He is now back in school ad studying without any disturbances like before. To add to that, I managed to renovate my hose whose condition was not pleasing at all. I had to plaster all the walls and floor as well and it is now decent and permanent. I used to worry maybe someday it would collapse because of the rains but GiveDiectly came in hand."

Mwenda
received a $493 second payment.
"In my opinion, GiveDirectly did well in almost everything in my village. First of all, there was no discrimination of either tribe, religion, or even gender. We were all enrolled fairly and freely and we received the money as promised during the Barraza. I do not see any sector that GiveDirctly has to improve on."

"I spent part of my second transfer on purchasing some building materials such as iron sheets, building poles, nails, and some timber. This was for the construction of a new house and a small business house. Initially, I used to sleep under a small temporary house that was leaking every rainy season. Also with the business house, I will start a business if selling some petrol to since it's of high demand. With the remaing amount, I cleared school fees for my children to avoid them being sent home frequently. With the remaining amount, bought enough foodstuffs for my family."

Sidi
received a $493 second payment.
"My life is totally different from how it would have been becasue I now sleep peacefully in a better house like the rest. The previous one was not in good condition at all and its walls had cracks and I always felt unsafe during the winter seasons. I had no coin to facilitate the construction of a new house and like was so tough by then. In such every rainy season, we had to seek shelter from neighbors until the season ends. Also, I am now a proud owner of two dairy cows which I have started getting their benefits. I settled in buying them because they are normally considered the best living assets one can ever have. They are highly valued in our community because they have numerous benefits."

Rightwell
enrolled.
"As a family that only relies on farming as our main livelihood, we face a lot of financial struggles if we have not sold our produce. We rely on the proceeds from selling maize and groundnuts to use for basic necessities, school fees for the children and even buy more food.
From the problems we face as a family, this money will reduce the pressures that comes with shortage of money. The priority is to make sure that my kids a are educated and I will make sure that some money goes towards their education for the next three terms. From there,we shall buy some bags of maize to top up on what we have since maize is chap during this harvesting period. In addition, we shall also do some finishings such as cementing the house and plaster inside the house too."

"In my opinion, GiveDirectly does well in almost all the sectors and I couldn't complain at all since I was satisfied with the whole exercise. First, the money came right on time as promised during the enrolment. Also, the cash transfers were unconditional and as the beneficiary, I was the one to decide on what to purchase. This made us have all the freedom. I do not see any sector GiveDirectly failed us."
