"In my opinion GiveDirectly does well by giving money to the poor in the community to build better houses and to buy dairy cows. I do not find anything that GiveDirectly did not do well ."

Joyce
received a $492 second payment.
"I spend all the second transfer to clear the debts that I borrowed to pay school fees for my two sons that were studying in the university. I do small scale farming and my spouse do casual jobs in town. The amount of money that we get is so small and cannot meet all the basic needs of the family including paying school fees for our children. It was so stressful because we didn't had other source of income. We borrowed some money and paid the university fees to enable them to sit for exams."

Esther
received a $492 second payment.
"My life is different than how it would have been if I never received the transfers in that I have build a better and spacious house. I used to live in a small mud house. I was always exposed to dust particles which might caused respiratory related diseases. I depend on small scale farming and the harvest that I get is only for consumption. I didn't had money to buy building materials. Currently I have a spacious house and I no longer being exposed to dust. I am so happy because GiveDirectly has changed my living standard. I had always wished to own a better house were it not GiveDirectly this could have been not possible."

Gilbert
received a $492 second payment.
"My life is different than how it would have been if I never received the transfers in that I have bought a dairy cow. I used to buy milk and it was so costly for me. I am a motorcycle taxi rider and the amount of money that I get through this is so small and I was not in a position to buy a dairy cow. Currently I own a dairy cow and I no longer buy milk. The amount of money that I could have used to buy milk I invest on other income generating project like poultry keeping. I am so happy because GiveDirectly has changed my living standard and for the people in my village."

Lilian
received a $492 second payment.
"When I received my transfer, I spent KES 30000 to pay school fees for my daughter in the university. I settled on this so that she would be allowed to sit for her final examinations. I am now glad that she will be graduating this year. In addition to this, I purchased a heifer at KES 18000 as a way of investing this money. When it starts to reproduce, I will be using the income from the sell of milk to meet our basic needs. I used the remaining amount to buy three seats."

Stephen
received a $509 second payment.
"In my opinion, GiveDirectly does well in so many ways. First, they do well by sending huge amount of money directly to people and making their cash unconditional. Also, they do well by not only helping so many people at a go but also by going house to house searching for recipients. I do not see anything that they do not do well."

Kahindi
received a $509 second payment.
"I spent part of my second transfer on buying a house at KES 30000 from my relative who lives in town. Also, I bought bags of cement and sand to renovate it becasue some of its walls were weak and they are now well plastered. In addition, I am planning to seek some medical attention since I have been unwell for quite some time. Considering I am a widower and living all alone it has been so hectic. Also, I bought e new bed and a mattress to at least replace the old mats that I have been using for years. With the remaining money, I bought enough foodstuffs for my family."

Pamela
received a $492 second payment.
"I spent part of my second transfer on buying 12 bags of cement at KES 580 each. This was for the plastering of my house since its walls and the floor was in bad condition. I also spent KES 5000 of the money to pay the mason as his labor charge on the job well done. Also, I bought three goats which cost KES 3500 each and three chickens which are now serving as the living assets that I am depending on any time. In addition, I bought decent clothes which were a replacement for the old torn rags that we have been wearing. With the remaining amount of money, I bought enough foodstuffs for my family and some other household items"
