"The biggest hardship I have faced in my life is not having or not being able to buy the things I desire. I have been wanting to have very nice kitchen utensils, a nice house, wrappers (zitenje) and enough beddings."

"I sent a larger portion of my first transfer on buying sevral materials which include iron sheets, building poles, timber and nails, and labor cost needed. I bought all these with an intention of constructing a new house beasue the previous one collapsed and few months and I had to shelter at my cowife's house. With the remaining amount of money I bought enough foodstuffs for my family and we no longer skip meals"

"Let me express my gratitude to GD in the first place for considering me. I am so grateful for this. This means a lot.
With the money, I will build a house because my house is very small and leaks during rainy season. I will also buy iron sheets. My house does not have proper beddings and I will make sure to buy some and kitchen utensils."

"I am very grateful for being considered in this program. I am originally from Thyolo and I came to Mangochi for some piece works. I have been looking forward to build a house and I am happy that I will be able to build one when I receive my transfer.
I also have a child who is at a secondary school level and we have been struggling to pay school fees for him. This is another opportunity to sponsor his education. I also intend to buy a piece of land for farming."

"Am so grateful that GD has visited my house. This is a blessing to my family. This year, I didn't harvest much from my maize field because of lack of fertilizer. I am hoping of buying more maize so that I can supplement on the little that I have.
My house is also small. I am planning of building an extension to my house. I have children who are schooling and are lacking school materials such as books and clothes. I will buy them clothes when I receive my transfer."

Dama
received a $507 initial payment.
"I spent part of my first transfer on buying pieces of iron sheets, nails, building poles, timber, and the full cost of labor that was inlvded. This was purely for the construction of a new house becasue the previous one was very small and its condition was not good at all. Also, I bought new bedding and a mattress at KES 11000. Previously I used to sleep on some old mats with lots of discomforts and backpains every day. With the remaining amount of money, I bought enough foodstuffs for my family that would at least sustain us for weeks."
