"I spent KES 10,000 on the second transfer on purchasing three goats. This is the best investment because goats reproduce twice per year. I spent some money to build them a house. I also bought sofa set seats at a cost of KES 15,000. This has made me feel great whenever I had visitors because I have a decent seats. I also fence my farm to prevent neighbor's cows from destroying my crops. The rest of the money I bought food and clothes for my children."

"I spent KES 19000 of the second transfer on purchasing a Solar and a battery for lighting up the house. I used to have a kerosene lamp for lighting. This is so costly because I have to purchase kerosene daily. I also purchased a heifer at a cost of KES 21,000. This will enable me to get enough milk for my family and cut the daily cost of buying milk. I paid KES 2,000 arreas for my children who are in secondary school. The rest of the money I bought food and clothes for my family."

"My life is different than how it would have been if I never received the transfers in that I have paid school fees for my son who was joining form one. I paid for one academic year in full. I am so happy because this will enable my son to study well without being sent home to collect the school fees. I will also have time to save some money to pay for the following academic year. I depend on small scale farming and sometimes I sell maize at the market. This small business earn me KES 200 profits per day. Due to recurrent needs at home I rarely save some money. We have started merry go round group that we save some money on monthly basis. I will ensure that I save some money monthly to enable me pay the school fees. I am so happy because GiveDirectly has enabled me to educate my son and given me hope to ensure that my son complete his studies."

"My life is different than how it would have been if I never received the transfers in that I have paid school fees for my son who was joining form one. I depend on casual jobs in the village, the amount of money that I get through this casual jobs is so small and cannot meet all the basic needs. I run a grocery store, This earns me a profits of KES 300 per day. I have needs at home which I spent all this money. Saving is not easy because of the recurrent needs. I didn't know how to raise the school fees. When I received the second transfer I found it Worth to start by paying all the fees for that term. My son now is studying well in school. This has given me peace of mind to work hard and ensure that I save some money to pay for next academic term. GiveDirectly has enabled me to educate my son and to start embracing the saving culture. This will ensure I pay school fees for my son until he clears the secondary school."

"My life is different than how it would have been if I never received the transfers in that I have bought a solar panels. My children were using torch to do their homework and assignments. This was so challenging because whenever I had no money to buy torch battery they could not do the assignment. I depend on small scale farming and and the harvest that I get annually is is only for consumption. I didn't had any savings to buy the solar system. Cooking during the night was a challenge because I had only one torch and at the same time my children wanted to used it. Currently I have a solar panels. There is lighting everything in the house. I do my chores peacefully and my children do there homework without any disturbance. I have the security light outside which I didn't had before. I am so happy because I no longer buy torch Battery with was so costly. I am abe to save some money to pay school fees for my children. GiveDirectly has changed our living standard."

"Receiving this money means a descent and a spacious house for my family. The one bedroom house I currently share with my children is not enough for my family. I am planning to use 400 dollars from the GiveDirectly transfer to construct a three bedroom house that is enough for my family. I will later use 200 dollars to furnish my house. I will use the balance to buy 10 indeginous goats for domestic rearing. Once my children grow up, I will sell the goats to educate my children. Doing all this will make me happy."

"I am happy to receive the money because at my age as a widower I don't have that energy to source money to buy my basic needs, I rely on handouts from my children and grandchildren, this money will be a relief to me and my grandchildren who tirelessly give me the much needed support"
