Tecla
received a $344 second payment.
"Last month, I received $450 from GiveDirectly, which was a great support and came at just the right time because it's the planting season. I invested $270 in farming an acre of maize. This amount covered leasing the acre for $100, preparing the land for $80, and buying maize seeds for $90. I just completed the whole process and I am very happy with GiveDirectly because, before this, it was hard to get the capital to buy seeds, let alone lease land to farm.
I am hopeful for a good harvest, which will solve the food security issue for my family. With the surplus, I plan to sell it and use the money to ensure that all three of my kids stay in school, and probably buy one more goat.
I also used $100 to pay school fees for one of my kids who is in secondary school. Now she is in school learning, and I no longer have stress about school fees. I directed $45 to my three kids, giving each $15 so they could buy clothes and their personal needs. This made my whole family very happy, grateful, and they really enjoyed the support from GiveDirectly.
GiveDirectly has made a huge impact on our lives, providing us with opportunities and relief that we couldn't have managed on our own."

Lilian
received a $27 twenty-sixth payment.
"With my daughter now progressing well and attending school, I am now shifting my focus towards livestock farming. I currently have over 500 chicken and I am excited to expand into goats as well using the transfers I receive from GiveDirectly. I already have two goats and plan to add more, hoping that they will multiply and increase in numbers. Once they have added in numbers, I will then sell them at the market and use the income generated from the proceeds to support my family. Livestock farming has been my ultimate goal, and I am happy that my dream is finally becoming a reality, all thanks to the support from GiveDirectly."

Wilson
received a $27 twenty-second payment.
"I am thinking about opening an M-Pesa business in our area since there are only two M-Pesa outlets currently available. People have to travel long distances to access these services, so I believe opening another branch would be beneficial. I estimate that I will need around $400 to open the business. I plan to generate income from various sources including video savings and my monthly transfers to ensure that the business can sustain itself. With careful planning, I am hopeful that the M-Pesa business will be successful in our area."

Amani
received a $27 twenty-second payment.
"I don't have any goals for the coming year and beyond, as I'm solely focused on building my own house. I don't have a house yet, and I really want to have one before I get married. I've put all my energy into this project, and I've already started purchasing building materials. In fact, I'm almost done with it. Once that's done, I'll start saving a portion of my income every month to accumulate enough money for the builder. Building this house properly will give me peace of mind and I'll be proud to own a house. It will also enable me to focus on the next steps. Additionally, it will remind me of the support I received from Give Directly once it comes to an end. I am truly grateful for Give Directly for their support."

Alphan
received a $27 twenty-sixth payment.
"I own a small business for selling petrol. Since it has been helping me earn a small income to support my family, I would like to expand it. Expanding this business will give me a good return, am sure. Since we have many motorbike riders who fuel their motorbikes every day, And since we are very few in the area, people have not flooded the business yet hence I want to take the opportunity before the market is flooded which I know will take a bit longer time. I am grateful for the support from GiveDirectly, since it is through the transfers that I established this business and I still want to save part of my transfers to expand it."

Jumaa
received a $27 twenty-first payment.
"Last year, I finished my studies and intended to join college and pursue a career in teaching. However, I am currently unable to attend college because I don't have my own house. I have decided to prioritize building my own home so that when I return from college, I won't have to worry about where to live. I have bought two metal sheets so far, and I plan to continue buying them each month until I start my house building project."

Lavenda
received a $27 twenty-first payment.
"I currently have five goats and two chickens, which brings me joy. My plan is for them to multiply, and then exchange the chickens for more goats and eventually trade the goats for cows. This will allow me to sell the milk and generate income for my family. Additionally, I aim to add another room to our house to provide a better living space for my family."

Esther
received a $27 twenty-first payment.
"I currently have four goats, and I hope they multiply so that I can trade them for cows. I want specifically a dairy cow because they multiply easily and I can sell their milk. By December, my goal is to have saved $500 to open my own salon in the city. I studied hairdressing and have a passion for it, so I am excited to start my own business to make more profits and give my family a good life they deserve."

Priscilar
received a $27 twenty-second payment.
"Currently, I depend on my spouse for any financial support. Since my main job is to work on the farm, sometimes it is not easy, especially now that we are experiencing drought. In fact, most of our plants are drying up. In such a situation, at times we go to bed hungry due to the lack of food. Since my spouse also depends on unreliable jobs, at times he comes home empty-handed, but I understand. For that reason, before this transfer comes to an end, I have resolved to look for an income-generating activity to help us support each other and ease my spouse's financial burden. For that reason, I have resolved to save part of my monthly transfer towards opening a vegetable business. I am sure this business will enable me to have my own income, hence allowing me to participate in financial planning and decision-making in our household. This is what my heart desires, and I thank Give Directly because I know it will come to fulfilment through my monthly transfers."

"Come September, my aim is to join college to pursue Mechanical Engineering.I am working towards gathering $150 for the deposit from my work and savings, and I will also seek support from my siblings to ensure my continued education for the year. Opting for Mechanical Engineering, I believe it will equip me with the skills needed to establish my own mechanic shop, ultimately supporting my family in the future. I strongly believe I will graduate with a good point because of my passion and determination for this field."
