Elizabeth
enrolled.
"Currently I have only one challenge and that is lack of food. With the death of my husband, Lidson Eleson, and my weakened strength I am unable to farm like I used to back in the days and I only harvest a little. This affects my food stock levels, for instance this year I didn't even get a single bag of maize from my maize field. I have had to sell mangoes in order to get maize for food lately and I have nowhere to turn to when the mango season is over."

"Hunger has been my greatest challenge. Getting food to feed my grand children is so disturbing as we can sometimes finish off a day without a full meal.
Water also oozes from the ground and makes my house soggy and weak especially when it rains heavily."

Harusi
received a $436 second payment.
"I used $160 of the second transfe to complete the building of a new house that I had begun. Our old home was only one room, so our kids had to ask our neighbors for a place to sleep, but I'm glad they now have their own room. I offered my spouse, who had recently completed his driver's education course, $100 so he could apply for a license. We will hopefully increase our household income once he finds employment. $85 I used to clear the debts our children owed the school in both secondary and primary school, which has provided them plenty of time for their studies as they are no longer sent back home. We used the remaining $185 to buy food that would last our family for a long period."

Lydia
received a $436 second payment.
"I started a fish and grocery store with $250 with the second transfer. I used to hawk vegetables at first, but it was not very lucrative and was exhausting. This gave me the idea to build a shop where I could conduct my business using some of the transfer money. In the empty space next to it, I also have plans to build a roadside kiosk in the hopes of increasing my income. The business has grown, and I'm happy that the income allows me to pay the tuition for my two secondary-school-aged children on time while still maintaining the viability of the business. In addition, I paid $100 of my son's secondary school tuition and used the remaining $175 to finish building the house that I had begun with the first transfer. We appreciate your help because it has made my life better."

Kadzo
received a $451 second payment.
"My main goal is for my kids to succeed in life, and the only way that can happen is with higher education. I want to make sure that they receive a university education, therefore I'm hoping to maintain the business that I now enhanced with a portion of the transfers and combine the income from it with the money my husband receives from operating public transportation. They will be able to find better occupations and, hopefully, enjoy better lives in the future through better education, in my opinion."

Bethwel
received a second payment.
"In my opinion, GiveDirectly does very well by making in house visits to every potential household within the village. This style or doing things sees every potential beneficiary not being left behind in the enrolment process. It also gives the officers an opportunity to tell each beneficiary all the information they may require to know before receiving the transfers. I am so happy that I was part of this program and for the way the officers handles me. There was no any kind of biasness whatsoever from the time the officers came to the time they left. Everything about GiveDirectly was just excellent and straightforward"

Nelson
received a $232 initial payment.
"From the beginning of this program, I wanted my wife to served as house hold head. She declined for reason best known to herself. It seems like God spoke to her, because right after enrolling us on the program, she got sick and was taken to the sick bush for treatment. On this faithful day, I was thinking on how I will get money for her treatment when I got alert message. Upon checking, I saw a Mobile Money message that I have received $35,625 LRD from Givedirectly. With joy and happiness, I quickly ran to Zleh Town to cash out my money. I went straight to my wife in the sick bush to give her the money and the good news."
