"After the death of my daughter-in-law, I took the task of assisting my son in looking after their 6 children. In this regard, I opted to take care of the last four children who are in primary school while the father takes care of the first two who are in secondary school. Having taken that responsibility, I have some plans to achieve this year. From the transfers I get from GiveDirectly, I want by the end of the year to have bought five goats exclusive of the ones which will be born in between. To achieve this goal, I planned to be saving at least $13 every month to ensure that I buy the goats. I opted to save this little amount so that I could also cater for the examination fees for the four grandchildren I am taking care of as well as for food for the family using the remaining amount."

"I intend to make an investment in my farm by getting a few goats, who will then support me if I ever need money. For instance, after purchasing goats last year, I ultimately sold them to use the proceeds to cover my hospital cost from an accident that took place. Because of this, I think it's crucial to maintain adding to my goat herd so that I have a way to help myself the next time I find myself short on cash. I also have high hopes that I will be able to save some money from the donations so that when I have enough I may build a wonderful, large home."

"The biggest difference in my daily life is that I am now happier than I have ever been before. We have been able to build a house for our child and we feel happy that he now has a house of his own. He can get enough time for personal studies and we feel so much happy about this. We are family or three"

"Words cannot express my joy when I saw a text message on my screen indicating that I had received money from GiveDirectly. When I heard my phone buzz, I was at my shop in the shopping centre. I assumed it was normal transaction messages from my customers, but little did I know that I had received a large sum of money from GiveDirectly. I am grateful for the help that came to impact and positively transform our lives."

"My primary source of income is farming because that's how I earn my livelihood. I am fortunate to have one child. It overjoyed me when the organization came to our community and assured us that they would give us money without restrictions. This is because I was certain that I would finally be able to fulfil my dreams. I chose to spend $250 of the cash on purchasing a dairy cow to enable me to decrease the cost of milk, where I often pay $0.5 for a litre. This was becoming costly. Secondly, I replaced the ceiling in my home, which required $50, and bought a bed, which was $40. Lastly, I used the remaining money to buy food. All this was not possible before, due to financial constraints. I am lucky to be among the beneficiary of the program that impacted our lives greatly."

"Before receiving the transfer, I lived in a house made of grass. It was not conducive, sometimes when it rained we would shelter in the neighbor's house with my seven children and my wife which was embarrassing for me. My furniture and everything else inside the house would get wet. I stayed in that state for five years. I am a cobbler and I get a profit of $30 a month. This money mostly is spent on food. Receiving this transfer has enabled me to build a new house made of iron sheets. My family is now comfortable and I am happy, spent $350 to complete it and bought two sacks of maize for $120 which will me a while."

"Before the transfer, I was working as a cook at a nearby school getting a pay of $50 a month. This money helped me pay school fees for my children and buy food for my family. Unfortunately, my last child has a heart problem which forced him to drop out of school and I have been spending a lot of money on hospital expenses. This has drained me financially and most of the time I do not have the finances to cater to the needs of the other five siblings. We all slept in a one-roomed house that was uncomfortable because it was tiny. Receiving this money has enabled me to build another house where my sons sleep which cost $120. I also started a new business selling peanuts which generates $5 a day. This money helps me buy food for my family and save some for their school fees. I am thankful to the organization."
