"This year, I want to gather all the materials I'll need to construct a house. My house has a leaking roof and is in disrepair. It's time to completely replace the roof because the old, porous, and rusted iron sheets have done me well for the last six years. I want to save enough cash to buy new iron sheets, building poles, sand, cement, and building stones. I will start building the two-room house that will house my husband, six children, and I as soon as these materials are ready. The little money I make from selling charcoal prevents me from being able to do all of these things. I intend to reach this objective by the end of this year with the aid of the money from the transer."

"I started receiving GiveDirectly transfers when I was doing charcoal burning to make income that would help me meet the needs of my family. This business was so hard for me yet it fetched very little amount of money in the end. When I started receiving GiveDirectly transfers, I started a small business where I sell food items in a stall near my home. This is a business I had always wanted to start but I had been unlucky due to luck of enough capital. I am extremely happy that I can now raise enough money through this business that allows me to support my husband who runs a business in local town to make income as well. I have been able to raise enough money to not only pay school fees for my children in school but also meet other needs of my family as well. In the next couple of months, my intention is to keep improving this business until it finally becomes a bigger hotel. Making it a hotel will not only improve the level of income that we have but also make me be self employed. My two children will have it smooth in their education journey and in all other needs thereof."

"My main goal is to get my children through school as education opens unlimited opportunities. She has a goal of paying school fees for her two school going children through GD transfers. She has no conrete plan in place on how best to achieve this. She mentiones that she is jobless and depends on farming and rain has been insufficient over the three years for her to do a full cycle when it comes to her crops. Her husband is equally a retiree who is unable to do much. when it comes to finances."

"My husband is a casual laborer. He used to work with plan International but he lost his job three years ago. I do farming but it is four years now without rain in our village. This has caused drought and famine. He earns approximately $300 per month. This money caters mostly to school fees for the children. I have one at university and two at secondary school. The family goes without food for sometimes. We have one meal per day which sometimes we do not get any food. Lack of food is the challenge I am currently facing."

"Initially, I solely relied on the charcoal-burning business and my husband's small retail shop shop which would not enable me to put food on the table on daily basis. We used to go without food for at least three days a week. My living status was pathetic. Getting this transfer from GiveDirectly has changed my life. From the collapsing house we had, we are now having a good and secure house through the transfer. Apart from the shelter, my family is now happy since we have not gone without meals since the time I received the transfer."

"First and foremost, I want to express my gratitude for the transfer and my conviction that I will gain more as a result. My daughter finished her basic education last year and will start secondary school in one month. We would not have been able to send her to secondary school if it weren't for the organization, and we had no plans to do so. In exchange for a tiny charge, my husband, who is the primary breadwinner, assists others by carrying their baggage. He works in the city, therefore the rent on his home is covered by part of the same income. To increase our revenue, I burn charcoal on the other side. Most of the time, our earnings is insufficient to cover a full day's worth of meals. Going ahead, I will utilize all of my upcoming transfers to pay for our daughter's educational fees while using other funds to cover everyday living needs. One of the biggest things a parent can give their child is education, and we will be pleased parents to see our child follow her dreams"

"The feeling of being idle at home after suffering from mental illness, 10 years ago is the greatest source of stress, which has forced me to be retrenched from my security officer work. This means I have been jobless at home and being the primary breadwinner to my family of 7, I have faced a lot of challenges when it comes to meeting our basic needs. The hope has been on my 2 sons who are doing some casual jobs and their support is inconsistent because they have families to take care of. Sometimes, we are compelled to forfeit meals or survive on one in a day, a situation which has affected our health. Therefore, I consider the financial crisis as the main challenge which stands out at the moment."

"For the past two years, I have been working for someone as a shop attendant. I have learned some business management skills through that, and I have set a goal of starting my shop business. I have realized that the shop business is profitable. I have saved $400 towards the said goal. I will therefore be able to earn more money from that business, making it easier for me to help my parents raise money for their basic needs. My parents are both elderly and unable to do casual jobs to support themselves. They require more assistance, and I believe I will be able to support them once my goal materializes."
