"GiveDirectly has improved my way and standards of living in many different ways. Before I received these transfers, I had no dairy cow for the family and I spent a lot of money buying milk for household consumption. This has since stopped after I used my first transfer to buy a dairy cow. I have also been able to connect my home to the national grid of electricity and now we enjoy electricity like any other family in the village. This has even motivated my children to work extra harder following the installation of the same."

"Previously, I used to wake up so early to look for water in a communal borehole where there were specific times we could draw water. I am tilling my farm right now and I do not have to worry about where to get water before I go to the farm in the morning or after doing tedious farm work. I drilled a borehole in my compound using the transfer so I have a day to day supply of water in my home. Thanks to GiveDirectly, my life has changed tremendously."

"It has always been my greatest desire to have a stable source of income that can comfortably meet the needs of my family. Receiving this money, therefore, means my dream of running a kiosk business is finally coming to reality. With the limited options of opportunity in our region, my husband and I were forced into charcoal burning business, a venture that is strenuous and hazardous to one's health. Having it up and running will enable me to educate my children with much ease unlike at the moment where I struggle a lot to keep them in school. In addition, I will use part of my transfer to purchase oxen and an ox-plough, something that will see us till more hectares of land. Being food secured is a source of happiness and peaceful nights to any family."

"At the moment, I have two goals now that I have started receiving the money. First is to start a business of buying and selling second-hand clothes. Second-hand clothes business is the most preferred because the goods are not perishable and have a ready market as long as you target the right customer. I plan to achieve this by using my savings from my transfers. I believe my daily sales will be good if I also employ good marketing skills. I will then start saving so that I will later use to open a studio. opening a studio business is my second goal and opening it will help me to diversify my sources of income by not relying on only one source. Owning these businesses will help me meet my needs on time and also have some money to use in supporting my parents."

"I have been farming for a long time and it has never been so productive. I spend a lot of money buying hybrid seeds and fertilizer to boost the farm produce but I usually get disappointed. When I received this last transfer, I used it on buying maize for consumption and business purpose. I sell the maize to get money to pay school fees for my children who are in high. I also get food for family consumption. I can say that I have a small business I can depend on for generation of income for family upkeep."
