"Receiving this money means I will be able to retrive the piece of land that I leased so as to raise money to sort some domestic issues, buy cows that will reproduce and support my household in future.
I also hope to buy food and be able to feed my family better. "

"The biggest hardship that I am faced with is lack of money.
I have a lot of responsibility given the number of children that I have.
Taking care of their mdical bills, school fees and all the requirements are on me and yet I don't have any income generating activity.
Sometimes I have had to do casual labour to see to it that I provide. "

"My biggest hardsip is lack of oxen that would be used to support open land for crop cultivation because it is the main source of livelihood for my household. I dig with a hand hoe which is not significant at all. What I produce is basically to feed the family but not to support any development project. That leaves me with a narrow income source that is not sufficient."

"Receiving the money means improved living conditions. I will build an iron roofed house that will reduce the cost of renovating the grass thatched house in yearly basis. It's very costly to renovate a grass thatched house due to the distance covered and te cost of purchasing and transporting grass which is high."

"Having no source of income especially when one had been used to earning something daily is very tough. I am not happy with my current situation where I have to beg for financial assistance, which is why I wish to start a new business soon. My hope is that in the next six months, the new business I am planning to start will be very stable enough to enable me to take care of my household needs with ease and be independent."

"My life is currently different from how it was before I started receiving transfers from Give Directly in that, I am now hopeful of being financially stable. I am planning to start a business using the monthly transfer. I also managed to take care of my emergencies, for instance, when my house got burnt, I was able to buy a few things to start off easily without taking loans. I could have opted for loans because I had no money when the fire incidence happened but I am glad that. I was among the beneficiaries of Give Directly."

"Second hand clothes business has been my inner desire in my life ever since I am a casual labourer and my income is not enough to support my family's basic needs. Receiving this money from GiveDirectly means fulfilling my aspirations since I will be able to start the clothes business which will be operated by my wife. This will be our reliable source of income something that will change our livelihood. I also plan to spend the remaining amount to buy five goats and one cow in order to start rearing. "

Sarah
received a $468 initial payment.
"My daily life's greatest difference is the overwhelming Joy that I feel in my heart. This is because my transfer has enabled me to get back my land that Build Africa project had made me loose. This farm land will now enable me to do extensive farming and relieve me from doing a lot of mixed farming.
In addition to this, I am delighted that I was able to buy clothing for my entire family since this was a great challenge in my home. My children and I at times used to put on very tattered clothing and there was no way we could be in position to raise money to buy new ones."
