Lucas
received a $39 eleventh payment.
"I spent my transfer to boost my business. I am happy and dependent after boosting it since my income has improved since most of my customers when they come to buy they are able to get their preferred items .Therefore, I can work around my budget and take care of my needs without bothering my brother and parents like before."

Kache
enrolled.
"To have a decent house is the biggest dream that I have always desired to achieve. My grass thatched house is leaking making it difficult to shelter during rainy seasons. There are some instances that I had to shift my children in the middle of the night to find shelter in my neighbour's house. It is also the same house that serves as a kitchen and the smoke negatively impacts our health. Living in such a condition gives me depression. I therefore plan to build a better house because I cannot stand the suffering anymore. I will also purchase 2 dairy cows and this will mean a constant supply of milk in my village. This will earn me sustainable income that I will use to finance my family needs."

Bett
received a $22 twentieth payment.
"My expectation in the next six months is that my life will change. My income sources will have really diversified because I initially depended on poultry as a source of income and so by that time, I will have additional income from the sale of milk as well as income from the motorcycle business. I believe my family wellbeing will improve and more so, I will afford to enrol my child in a good academy school"

Francis
received a $360 second payment.
"I spent my transfer on boosting my fruits business by adding more stock to the business. I just felt by adding more stock, I will be able to get more income from the profits. I paid rent since payment time was due, paid back a debt I took from our table banking group to pay school fees arrears for my children who had been sent home for the same. I also gifted my sister some amount to help her sort some of her personal needs. The rest of the transfer I used to transport building materials such as iron sheets which I used in building a toilet back at home and saved the remaining amount for future needs."

Paul
received a $360 second payment.
"My new goal is to start a shop retail shop business. I would not want to continue hawking clothes as I have been doing since the first transfer. This is why I have chosen to start another business to help me boost my income. I have realized we do not have many shops in my area and I would want to utilize this opportunity well."

Benson
received a $360 second payment.
"Currently, my only goal is to continue paying for the loan I took to buy the motorcycle. I would not want it to be taken because I failed to pay for it yet it has been very helpful in terms of the little income I get from it on a daily basis."

Mwanaidi
received a $532 initial payment.
"I heard my phone vibrate at around 4 am notifying me that I received a text message. This made me wonder who would send me a text message at such an hour. Upon checking, I was amazed when I confirmed that GiveDirectly had sent me the money they had promised. Initially thought they were promising us something they wouldn't do especially with the experience of other NGOs before. I was so excited!"
