"There are changes that I have achieved after getting the transfers. One is being able to construct an iron roofed house, the other is that I have acquired household items that were not in place before for example a solar, a better mattress, chairs, good utensils. Before, We were sleeping in a grass thatched house with a roof that leaked on rainy days. I did not have good household items ."

"Initially, I used to depend fully on large scale crop farming; mainly maize and beans for a living but due to unreliable and unpredictable rainfall patterns in this area, i gave up on farming due to poor harvests. I then resolved to engage myself in the business of purchasing milk from my neighbours at a price of ksh 27 per litre and selling them to a middle man at ksh 32 per litre, which earns me a total of ksh 250 daily after selling 50 litres. My daily income is low compared to the needs of my family since i have two children studying in college and two in secondary school. This is the biggest struggle i face"

"Receiving this money will enable me to realise my life time dream of building a decent shelter that is spacious enough to fit my family of eight. Due to financial constraints, I have not been able to repair nor construct a spacious house and as a result, three of my eldest children are forced to seek shelter from relatives on a daily basis.Due to the cold at night more so when it rains, the younger ones have been subjected to persistent coughs, flu's and at one time my youngest suffered from pneumonia. When I receive this money I will construct a bigger house for us and with the rest invest in livestock for keeping."

"The biggest difference in my daily life is that I have built a better hand spacious house for my family. I used to live in a small mud house which was leaking from the inside. It was a big problem during the rainy season because it was leaking from the inside, We used to stay in one corner of the house where it was not leaking until when the rain was over. I feared to welcome visitors to my house because the house was in bad condition. There was no space and no seats. At times when I had my siblings, I used to make a tent outside the house to host them there as we discuss family issues. Currently, I have a better and spacious house. I no longer fear to welcome visitors to my house and We are no longer exposed to cold. I am so happy because GiveDirectly has completely changed my living standards from grass-thatched house to an iron sheet roofed house."
