"I am a single mother of 1. I do not have a source of income except for casual jobs I do within the village. The 1-acre piece of land that my parents gave me to till does not produce enough to feed my family due to prolong draught we experience in our region. Last year I harvest 2 bags of maize that takes us through 3 months only in a year.Receiving this money will enable me to start a retail business in this I am sure of stable income to sustain my family."

"The biggest hardship that we have faced as a family is payment of school fees. I at one time had three of my children in secondary school and paying school fees for them. Was really tough. It was even worse since that time I was nursing injuries and I could hardly do anything to accumulate enough money. That time was really tough for me and my small business collapsed. We were left so helpless as a family."

"Lack of capital to start a business has been the biggest hardship I have faced in life. Getting lump sum money or saving some cash from my small business has become an uphill task. On a normal day, I get an income of approximately Ksh 500 per day. Keeping in mind the hard economic time we are facing, this amount is hardly enough to cater for the family and save some. Give Directly's entry into this village is timely since I will soon buy some materials to start me off."

"The biggest hardship I have faced is failing to join high school due to lack of school fees. I am now hiring unskilled labour which fetch small amount of wages which is not enough for development such as buying a cow or building a house."

"I lost my job due to COVID-19 pandemic in March of 2020. Since then I have been home trying farming as a business but I have
not been successful due to lack of capital. The dry season in this place is usually so prolonged so I would like to purchase irrigation equipment with these transfers because we have plenty of water around this farm which has not been put into use. This will enable me to be an all weather farmer and have an income throughout the year."

"I faced the biggest hardship in my life when my husband was jobless. He tried his best to make us comfortable but still we couldn't afford to buy food for our family. I would try help him some days by looking for casual jobs in the neighborhood but the pay was too little compared to the amount of work you would be asked to complete."
