"We should appreciate that agriculture is the back bone of our economy, and we do depend on it for our days to day life. The climatic changes have proofed otherwise for there have been adverse cases of drought and hunger in our lands.Despite cultivating the farm well, I have have been unable to harvest making food insecurity my biggest hardship. For instance,at the moment ,I have maize at the farm but it's unproductive because of the harsh climate and diseases."

"I have always wanted to build a decent house for my family. The one I currently have is small one bedroom house , and doesn't fit my children to sleep and study. The 2 teenage girls sleep in the kitchen (a separate house ) ,and I feel this is insecure for them.Receiving this money means that I will be able to expand the current house (200usd) as the children will get some place to study and to rest as well.I will spend (500usd) of the transfers on purchasing a dairy cow for I currently buy milk (0.3usd a litre) per day which is way costly. Furthermore, the milk will be used for the household and the rest sold to feed my family. The rest of the transfers will be used to educate my 4 children."

"Food insecurity is my greatest hardship. The harsh climate isn't favourable for the crops (maize, beans) I farm in the small piece of land I have.Lately, there have been fluctuation in the onset of rains that have led to low productivity. I depend on subsistence farming to feed and educate my children. With this ,I have to use the income (2usd per day) I earn from my bodaboda business to purchase food once it's depleted and it's unfortunate that this can't sustain the family need at times ."

"My spouse and I are aging and we solely depend on our children to provide 80% of our needs, more so food and clothing. My eldest son's wish was to construct a better and more comfortable house for us, as a token of appreciation for funding his education through the university level. However, he had to divert all the construction financial support, to pay the hospital bills for my youngest son who succumbed to Meningitis one month ago. Where to get money to finish up with the construction is our current biggest challenge, but we thank Give Directly for coming in handy to salvage the situation at hand."

"I intend to use this money for constructing a modern house as the one I currently live in is grass thatched and badly leaks during heavy rains. I believe the money from this program will help me fulfil the dream of living in an iron sheet roofed house."

"The biggest hardship is famine and luck of food for my children. Last year my husband never got any casual jobs during the covid -19 time and we went to bed hungry many days. It took us more than 3 months without food in the house living from hand to mouth."
