"With my husband's job, he does not make much money and I feel so bad when I see him toiling all day but we cannot afford decent meals and sending our children to school comfortably. With this money, we can decide to put it together and start poultry farming. It will enable us to sell chicken and eggs to compliment what my husband makes as a Mason."

"I work at Kinarani shopping center as a welder but I have always desired to start my food selling business. I have a structure right outside my house that I can use as a shop, I intend to sell fish and maize flour. To start my business, I only need to save 5,000 KES so that means I will commit my first three transfers to set up my business and as time goes by, I will keep pumping more money into it to add stock then slowly grow into a retail shop."

"Working as a Mason, these jobs are not consistent and when they come by, sometimes we are not paid as promptly as we would like. Sometimes, the pay is delayed or doesn't come at all until end month. This makes me sad because once I leave my house in the morning, my family expects me to come back home with some money for food and some goodies like candy for my babies but I come home empty-handed and devastated. I feel hopeless because rarely will you get anyone employing a permanent or long term Mason."

"The house I am living in currently is falling apart. The roof is caving in and the walls are falling off in bits and pieces. With these transfers, it will mean that I will be in a position to repair my house and have a much more decent dwelling. I intend to save up 2,500 KES per month for the fist four months and I believe that with 10,000 KES, work can kick off and thereafter, I can keep improving it where I deem fit. It will make me very happy."

"My biggest problem has been lack of food because we barely harvest enough food. The main reason why we do not harvest much is because we dont have enough land and also because we do not apply fertilizer as it is expensive"

"My dream was to own livestock with my family. This has been impossible to achieve since I had no stable source of income instead of selling charcoal and fetching firewood for my neighbors at a fee, until a few weeks ago. When I received the second transfer, I bought 14 goats that I am currently rearing. I am keeping them with the hope of seeing them multiply to help me in meeting my upcoming financial needs in the future. I paid school fees for my five primary school children as well as buying some new clothes for all of us. I also bought a standard bed and mattress since the ones we had, were smaller and worn-out."

"Upon receiving the second transfer, I cleared school fees for my 5 children. One is in form one, while the other for are in primary school. It has been my wish to take my children to secondary school and this dream is coming to fulfillment since the first born joined form one using the money I received from GiveDirectly. I also did roofing of my house which we had started using the 1st transfer though it wasn’t complete. I also purchased a solar panel at KES 10500 that we are now having light at night not as before. I also did shopping for the children and used the remaining in obtaining foodstuff."

"Receiving this money will allow me to start a business, I'll be buying fish in bulk here and resell in town. That will enable me to buy food and improve the house. Might as well build another with burnt bricks when the business takes off. I will also buy a mattress and beddings."
