Samson
received a $465 initial payment.
"Upon the receipt of our initial transfer, My wife and I agreed to spend our money on starting an eatery business. I knew that it will be a source of extra income for our family thus boosting our finances. Therefore, we used KES 15,000 on the same. I am a Boda Boda rider, married and blessed with two children. We transferred our children from a public school that was underperforming to a better school in Ganze town where we used a sum of 30,000. And finally, the motorcycle that I am using was bought on hire purchase thus I used KES 10,000 in settling a debt. I am happy and grateful to have achieved a lot with the support that I got."

Kadzo
received a $466 initial payment.
"For so many years I have been desiring to have a kitchen since my house was not spacious. Therefore I have been doing the cooking on my veranda and storing my properties under a huge tree. Also during the harvesting seasons, it was so hectic because my farm products would get stolen since I did not have a proper place to store them. I have therefore been experiencing loss all along. During the rainy season, I had to shift some of my properties to my friend's houses to avoid the damage. I have however wanted to construct the kitchen/granary for so many years but I could not afford to buy the materials needed. My spouse and I depend on low-paying jobs which can not even sustain our daily needs. I am so grateful that for now, I will not have to worry about the losses and the damages and do my cooking in a very pleasant place."

"I felt very impressed with the transfer received because I didn't labour for such amount. And another reason is, we are six biological children form a mother and father but we were teenagers when our father passed away; in so doing, our mother alone continue to struggle with us. My younger brothers and sisters have being sent out of school for school fees. However, getting the cash grant has enable me to pay their arrel in school. Currently, their arrel are paid by me through the transfers received and I was also able to establish small business as source of income."

"The moment when I received my recent transfer,I was very excited! I was excited because I never had money to and GiveDirectly gave me money. We have been living in my father in law house for the past two years. We have been sleeping on a damaged mattress with my young baby. My husband is a motorcyclist and that has been our means of survival. Things have been really difficult on us. We had a plan of building our own house but couldn't afford for ourselves due to financial difficulties. However, from my transfer that I received from GiveDirectly, things have started improving in my life."

Moses
received a $246 third payment.
"I have a new goal of starting a business to improve my income. My goal is to buy a motorcycle for transport business. I carve canoe for living. But my earning from the carving of canoe cannot sustain my family and I. I have six living children but three live here in Tabay town with me. Providing meal everyday for them is a challenge. So, I have decided to keep this my recent transfer and add it to the last one to buy a motorcycle for transport business."
