"GiveDirectly has been of great help in my community in many ways. First, most of the people in my village now sleep under iron roofed houses. Previously, we used to sleep under old grass-thatched hats which were leaking whenever it rains. Secondly, the majority of us have some livestock which includes cows and goats. These are now the good assets we can proudly talk of. Thirdly, our children are now studying without any disturbances. There are those who had dropped out of school but they are now back to school as well which is so encouraging. Previously they used to stay home for weeks because of our financial status. This was really affecting their academic performance. According to me, I do not see any part GiveDirectly has not done us good."

"I have not been able to do much with my transfers in the past four months because I have been saving them to buy a heifer, therefore I cannot say that there have been any changes in my life. Saving the transfers has however given me the hope of adding one more cow to my shed before the end of this year which I know would have been impossible without the transfers."

"For the next four months, I have an additional goal of saving the coming transfers so that I can later purchase a cow for rearing. With the cow, I'll be assured of a constant supply of milk both for consumption and for sale after it has given birth. This will save me from the cost of buying milk. Apart from that, I'll have additional income form the milk sales."

"Imagine having dairy cows that are so expensive to maintain in a locality where the milk sales are ever diminishing! The switch to dairy goats is something I have ever yearned for because of the readily available market and better prices (up to 50% more) compared to cow milk but inadequate capital has been my main constraint. This GiveDirectly money means a realization of this household goal!"

"When I received the transfer from Give Directly, The first thing that came into my mind was to buy a water tank. This was because I am no longer in a position to fetch water from the water point because of old age. Besides, the water isn't always clean for drinking and cooking. I had to solve this problem for once and no longer worry about it again. I also purchased a dairy cow which will in future boost my income from the sale of milk. The money I will be generating will always sort my daily needs."

"With the transfers that I received, I used it to purchase wire mesh and some iron sheets for the construction of a poultry house since I am planning to venture into poultry keeping. This will enable me generate some additional income through the sale of eggs. The other amount was used by my husband to boost his business of buying and selling cows"

"When I received this money, I decided to open an Mpesa shop. My son has been so idle at home and all along, he had a goal of starting one in order to not only create him an employment but also to generate more income to the family. Since I am old, I no longer do casual jobs and so life was very hard since a times, we didn't have any amount to purchase a tin of maize and ended up sleeping hungry. With the remaining amount, I bought an heifer since I only had one cow and wasn't producing milk throughout. I was then forced to buy for my family consumption. I also purchased some foodstuff and other household necessities."

"Receiving this money means I will be able to build an iron roofed house that I can sleep in. The one that I have is grass thatched and it is hard to maintain the fact that grass is scarce these days. Incase of any balance, I hope to buy a cow that can reproduce and support my family in the future. I can sell some of the products to raise some money so as to sort other household problems."

"In 2001 I sold some 2 cattle that I had to settle some medical bulls for my daughter whose delivery happened in hospital.Since then,I have never afforded to purchase others. The subsistence farming activities, small scale growing of tomatoes, cannot accord me ability to buy other cattle.Receiving this money means that I will be in a position to purchase other cattle which will benefit me in two ways;I will get milk for sale and consumption and the cows will act as future savings to me."
