"I graduated from high school since 2019 and due to lack of money and support, I could not go to college nor vacation school to improve myself.
That same year, I came to this town to live, make cocoa farm and be able to raise some money and get back in school. Presently, cocoa farm and bike riding is what I do to substain myself.
My major challenge now is, I don't get support from anyone to help me raised my fees. The cocoa farm owned has not been able to produce much to pay my fees either.
More over, I don't have anyone I can trust to with my back to also be able to generate money, which makes it challenging for me to meet my target of getting back in school."

Hamisi
received a $10 initial payment.
"Living short of my responsibility to provide meals and support my children's education was a major concern that I struggled to accept. I could feel irresponsible at times, especially when getting a customer seemed impossible. However, I gained positive energy after receiving my most recent transfer and being able to buy maize flour that would last my family for a week. Fortunately, this diluted all of my negative thoughts, and as a result, I began to be more positive and exert more effort. I am grateful to have gone through such a significant change in my life, including my motorcycle taxi service. I am extremely grateful to GiveDirectly for its exceptional support."

received a $442 second payment.
"My new goal is to be able to start a new business. I have been doing motorcycle operation for quite sometime now and I think it's about time that I quit and start a new business. My goal is to open up a shop at a nearby centre in my home and run this business so as to be able to meet the needs of my family. The motorcycle operation has kept me far from my family for quite sometime since I am working from town yet my family stays back in the village. Right now I am saving some money from my job in preparation for this business. I hope to quit the motorcycle riding by next year. I am so grateful to GiveDirectly for making it possible for me to think about this by providing support when I felt that life was so costly and cushioning me against tough economic situation then."

Beatrice
received a $442 second payment.
"My new goal is to build a shop next to our compound. In this shop, I will be selling industry goods such as foodstuffs and other basic household needs. The goal is to diversify our sources of income and better our living standards as a family. This idea came about because of the gap that I saw within our village, people travel for quite a long distance to buy these commodities. The motorcycle that we bought has enabled us to accumulate enough money from my husband's masonry work since his mobility has been enhanced. We are only waiting for him to be paid for some work that he recently undertook and we will be able to use the money to start off this business. The success of this project will be largely attributed to the support we received from GiveDirectly and we will be very happy and grateful about this."

John
received a $442 second payment.
"I do operate a motorcycle taxi business at the moment and as it is now the business isn't doing well. I am thinking of starting up a second-hand clothes business so that I can generate income to support my family. Now I have means of transport, it will be easier for me to move from one market to the other. That would help me to save on transportation costs and maximize profit."

"In my opinion, it did well for sending cash direct to the recipients. Furthermore, the transfer was unconditional and non-refundable giving chance for the recipients to make there own choice of how to better their living standards."
