"Receiving this money means building a simple iron sheet roofed house because I am fed up of frequently looking for roofing grass for the hut I am using."

"I have a soda and snacks business that I revived using the first transfer I received. This business had previously collapsed due to mismanagement and consumption of all the profits and even the capital. The business is so far doing great as I recently boosted it even more by adding more stock with part of the money I received. I used the money I had left after restocking to buy roofing sheets which I plan to use in the construction of a new house back in my rural home where I do not have a house at the moment. Some of the money was used to transport the sheets home."

"Recieving this money means that I can construct an iron roofed house. This is because the thatched house has been very costly to renovate."

"I have a family of 10 members and meeting their basic needs has always challenged me since my charcoal burning activity earns me very little to support this. Considering that these needs are recurrent, I have failed to save even a penny to construct a decent house for myself and this has forced me to live in a disastrous structure that is unworthy for a human being. Imagine sleeping in a house which is at the same time used as a kitchen! It is a very horrible moment to me but the arrival of Givedirectly translates to a better house for me. I am planning to construct a 2 roomed iron roofed house using utmost $250 of my first transfer. This will mean a better home for me and hence, an improved livelihood that will earn me the long lost respect from my neighbours."

"My single roomed house is too small to accommodate my family of 9. This has forced my husband to find shelter in our neighbour's house. This is due to our culture which forbids a man to share a room with his mother and daughters. Besides, it is in a very risky condition that is not fit for human life. Some of the walls have collapsed and others are following suit. The roof is partly made of grass and some loose iron sheets that held with poles. This situation has made owning a better house to be my biggest ambition. I will therefore use this transfer to achieve the same. "

"Receiving this money means it's the only opportunity available to build a simple iron sheet roofed house. This is because the current grass thatched house leaks during rainy season, not spacious enough, and it has become difficult to find roofing grass nowadays."

"In the next four months, I plan to buy building materials which I will use in building a new house. The one I have is grass thatched and I would want to improve to the iron-roofed house now that I still get transfers from GD."

"A decent house for my family has been my greatest desire in life. Currently, my house's roof is leaking and I hardly get enough sleep especially when it is raining. Since the onset of this rain season, I was forced to shift my bed to the sitting room because the main rooms' roof is full of holes. My plan is to spend utmost 300 dollars to repair the roof, something that will restore my happiness. On the other hand, I plan to spend $380 to buy an oxen and ox plough that will help me in upscaling my farming. This will assure me of more harvests since I will be able to prepare and plant my farm in time. Hence, a better life that I have longed for."

"Receiving this money means I will be able to replace my old thatched roof with an iron roof at a cost of 15000 shillings inclusive of labor. I will also install a solar panel worth 33000 shillings to enable my children study at night and improve security too. With the remaining balance, I will purchase 5 goats at 3000 shillings each and food such as maize for my household that can sustain us till next month when we can harvest our crops."
