"I have desired to improve the condition of my house by putting up a new roof but due to the poverty, this was uphill for me. This is because the one I had earlier was an old, rusty, leaking roof with one side blown away by strong winds. It was a great challenge especially during rain season since I was spending sleepless nights with my 2 small children. In addition, the kids were constantly feeling sick due to cold-related illnesses like coughing something that makes my life difficult. After receiving the transfer, I prioritized repairing the roof by purchasing 30 iron sheets, nails and paying labor charge. I also bought proper beddings for KES 16000 since the one I had was a small mattress that had worn out our years. Furthermore, I purchased 4 goats at KES 4000 each which is a long-term investment for my kids, I will be able to sell them when they multiply to educate them."

"Lack of water is the biggest hardship we face. This area is prone to long periods of drought. Clean water is essential for the survival of livestock and human beings. I am a dairy farmer with cows and goats. I spent approximately KES 450 per day on the water for household use and for livestock to drink. This money should have been spent on other activities and developments in the household in case we had access to adequate rainfall and tap water."

"I have been staying at home idle due to lack of money to initiate an income generating project. Receiving this money will be the beginning since I will start goat rearing. I will begin by buying six goats which will cost me 20,000 Kenya Shillings. Goat farming does well in this region since it does not require a lot of pasture compared to dairy farming. When the goats multiply, I will be able to educate my child as well as start other income generating projects. I will use another 20,000 Kenya shillings to do some house repairs since the mud walls are falling off."

"The money will help me to buy livestock's and to buy iron sheet's. I separated with husband three years ago and since then I have been living with my three children. Living alone, has made me realize that if I die today, my children will be left with nothing that will support them in paying school fees. For that, I want to use the money to build a house and livestock's. I want to build a house that will last for so many years. I Will also use the money to buy livestock especially goats. The goats will help me to sale in future and that money will be used to pay for school fees. Thanks for the cash gift, it will really improve my financial status. On monthly basis I make K2000 on average from piece works such as washing clothes and working in farming fields."

"Receiving this money means getting a new and safer house for my household. Currently, I am living in a grass-thatched house that is leaking during the rainy season. I am planning to spend my entire first to construct a 2 bedroom house so that we can live a decent life. I will also spend KES 30000 to buy 10 goats that will act as a long-term investment project for my family. The remaining amount will cater to household expenses like food."

"Receiving this money means investment to me. In my community, the only investment one can have is either goats or cows. I do not have even one. Upon receiving the money, I will buy 20 goats at a cost of 58000 KES. This will help me in future for emergency uses. I will also use 40000 KES to clear school fees for my son who is in secondary school. The school fee balance is 40000 KES. I will use the remaining 12000 KES to buy food for the family."

"Receiving this money means good education, decent housing for my children and livestock production. I have 4 children who are now teenagers. The first born is 17 years old and the last born is 7 years old. Living with my children in the same house makes me very uncomfortable. I am planning to construct a separate house for my four children at a total cost of 20,000 KES. Still, my children are attending school ( Mnagoni primary school). Paying their school is a challenge for me. I am planning use 10,000 KES to clear their fee arrears. For a few years now, I have had the desire of being a livestock farmer, due to lack of enough money, I don't own even a single goat. I intend to use 20,000 KES to buy 5 goats. These goats will act as a bank for me. In a period of two years, they will have multiplied and I will be able to sell some of them to earn an income. My children are still growing, and I would want them to advance in their education. I will save the rest of the money for the main purpose of my children's education."

"Receiving this money means a safer house for me. This is because I currently do not have a house. I sleep outside and during rainy seasons I am forced to look for shelter at my brother's house. I am planning to spend my entire first transfer to construct a two-bedroom house. With my second transfer, I will spend KES 15000 to buy a bed and mattress to give nice and comfortable sleep. I will further spend KES 30000 to buy 10 goats that will act as a long-term investment project for my household. The remaining amount will cater to household expenses like food."

"Receiving this money means continued education for my family. I am a housewife and my husband relies on the charcoal burning business which earns him very little KES 1200 per week. I am planning to spend KES 20,000 to clear the fee balance for my children. I will also use KES15000 to repair the roof of my house which is leaking. The remaining amount will use it to buy ten indigenous goats which do well in our area and cater to other basic needs such as food."
