"Receiving this money means improving my living standard. Since I was born ,I have never slept on a bed with a mattress. I only use sacks as my beddings. I will use 15000 KES to buy a bed and a mattress . I will also use 50000 KES to buy 20 goats as investment and use the remaining 45000 KES to pay school fees for my grandson who is in secondary school."

"Receiving this money means good education for children, good housing and food security for me. I have a family of 8 children. Three of these children are teenagers. Staying with them in the same house makes me uncomfortable. There is no privacy. I am planning to use 20,000 KES to build a house for the three children. Six of my children are in primary school, I will use a total of 6,000 KES to clear their school fees.I am also planning to use 25,000 KES to buy 10 goats. This place is very dry, we don't receive sufficient rainfall for maize production. This makes hunger a threat to my family. Goats being browsers ( feed on shrubs), can survive in this kind of a climate. After the goats increase in number and grow, I will sell them and use the income to buy foodstuffs for my family and even pay for school fees for my son who will join secondary school next year. Due to the lack of electricity in this area, I will use the money to buy a solar panel at a cost of 15,000 KES. The solar panel will be very useful, I will be charging my phone and my children will use it to study at night."

"Receiving this money means building a new house. This is because, for the last five years. I have been sleeping in a single room house which leaks when it rains and very cold at night which makes it difficult to sleep comfortable. However, I have no other option because of lack of money to build a better house. I depend on charcoal selling business which earns me very little amount of around 2000KES a month. This money is not enough to take care of my basic needs and save for my future as well. All the money I get is used for buying food. I intend to use the first cash transfer to build a two bedroom house that will cost around 30000 KES. I will then use the remaining amount to buy ten goats as an investment for my future."

"I have desired to invest in livestock because this is the only way I can save my money to earn a profit when I sell them after they multiply. I, therefore, intend to start with 10 goats that will cost me KES 30000 of my first transfer. The remaining amount of my first transfer will cater to food expenses and household needs. With my second transfer, I plan to spend KES 35000 to construct a separate house for my children, and this will restore the respect I have lost for a long time. The balance will help me to pay school fees for my children in school."

"When I received my transfer, I spent KES 45000 to purchase a second-hand motorcycle so that I can be using it to offer taxi services in the neighborhood. Before receiving the transfer, I had been employed by one of my neighbors and I would make at least KES 500 a day after fueling it and setting aside KES 50 for lunch. I would be paid KES 200 from the amount I made in a day and sometimes KES 100 when the business was down. After studying and seeing how lucrative the business was especially during peak days, I had always desired to own my own motorcycle. From the remaining amount, I spent KES 3500 to purchase a goat as a way of investing this money and spent the remaining KES 6200 on beddings and some personal clothes to replace old ones."

"Our area is prone to drought. For very long time, I have tried farming but all the crops soon withers after sprouting due to insufficient rainfall. We really have food shortage. So when I get this money I will buy food for my family. A bag of maize cost KES 3000. I also wish to buy goats. 2 goats is good for starter. Goats can give birth at least 3 times in a year hence multiply easily. This goats will help me when I sell them in future when I don't have money to buy food for my family. Each goat will cost KES 2000. The remaining amount i will put into savings as i still think of what to invest in."

"I have desired to improve the condition of my house by putting up a new roof but due to the poverty, this was uphill for me. This is because the one I had earlier was an old, rusty, leaking roof with one side blown away by strong winds. It was a great challenge especially during rain season since I was spending sleepless nights with my 2 small children. In addition, the kids were constantly feeling sick due to cold-related illnesses like coughing something that makes my life difficult. After receiving the transfer, I prioritized repairing the roof by purchasing 30 iron sheets, nails and paying labor charge. I also bought proper beddings for KES 16000 since the one I had was a small mattress that had worn out our years. Furthermore, I purchased 4 goats at KES 4000 each which is a long-term investment for my kids, I will be able to sell them when they multiply to educate them."

"Lack of water is the biggest hardship we face. This area is prone to long periods of drought. Clean water is essential for the survival of livestock and human beings. I am a dairy farmer with cows and goats. I spent approximately KES 450 per day on the water for household use and for livestock to drink. This money should have been spent on other activities and developments in the household in case we had access to adequate rainfall and tap water."

"I have been staying at home idle due to lack of money to initiate an income generating project. Receiving this money will be the beginning since I will start goat rearing. I will begin by buying six goats which will cost me 20,000 Kenya Shillings. Goat farming does well in this region since it does not require a lot of pasture compared to dairy farming. When the goats multiply, I will be able to educate my child as well as start other income generating projects. I will use another 20,000 Kenya shillings to do some house repairs since the mud walls are falling off."
