"I spent the money I received on building an extension of my house. This is because I have a large family. We were not comfortable anymore living in the house we had but I could not afford to build one. I then bought some plastic water tanks. I needed this because I had already an iron roof from which I could collect rainwater for domestic use. I finally spent the rest on farming. I plowed the land and bought some farm inputs."

"I have turned to be a laughing stock in the village because my house got destroyed by the rains and this has forced me to live a life that if full of ridicule. Imagine sleeping in a house whose walls are just braving the strong winds and its roof is almost collapsing! It is a life that makes me shed tears when I think of how I can get out of this situation. I was so happy when I learned that my life will change once I get the cash grant from GiveDirectly. As of now, my plan is to spend 300 dollars to construct a decent house for my family something that will earn me the respect that I have lost for long. On the other hand, I intend to spend another $300 to buy an oxen and ox plow that will help me upscaling my farming. This will give my life a better version, a transformation that I have long wished."

"We have been aspiring to build a better house for our family. We are currently sleeping under one roof with our goats and it is not hygienically good for us. Our plan is to spend approximately 300 USD to build an iron sheet roofed house and the remaining 250 USD, we use it to buy food and goat since we have food shortage in our household. Receiving this money therefore mean our family will have an improved housing unit."

"My new goal, for now, is to buy building materials such as iron sheets and nails. Currently, I am living in a grass thatched house which is not in good condition. It is also hard to maintain due to the lack of grass in my area. This is why I have started saving so that I can build an iron-roofed house."

"With the transfers from GiveDirectly, I was able to expand my dairy project by buying a heifer worth KES 25000. I believe that it will be calving soon and my family will get enough milk for our consumption and sale to earn an income. I will be using this money to pay for my children's education and to meet some of our basic needs. Also, I have been able to build a decent house for my family. We had been living in a grass thatched house with weak walls and leaking roofs. Because of this, our beddings would at times get soaked in rainwater whenever it rained when no one was at home. Having achieved all this makes my life different from how it would have been had I not received the transfers."

"We have been able to provide for our families effectively, purchasing livestock as assets and most importantly, building better iron-roofed houses thus enjoying good shelter. In my opinion, GiveDirectly has done well in uplifting and I urge them to continue doing so."

"I am very grateful to GiveDirectly because soon, I will have a decent house and at least get access to a good shelter. For many years, I have tried to build a decent house but my plan had always been unfruitful. My house had collapsed many years ago and the best option has been living in a temporary hut. With the coming of GiveDirectly, I am now in the process of building a new iron-roofed house. Truly, I feel that this is the biggest difference in my daily life."

"In my opinion, GiveDirectly has done well in uplifting our lives which were miserable before enrollment. We have been able to provide for our families effectively, purchasing livestock as assets and most importantly, building better iron-roofed houses thus enjoying good shelter. To me, GiveDirectly is organized, firm and fair on their duties and more so I love their culture of giving the recipients a chance to decide on what to spend money on."

"Before the transfers, I had a goal of repairing my parent's house. The one they had at that time was old and leaning on one side. The roof too was very rusty and some part was leaking already. I was not pleased with it and decided to focus my resources on building a new house. So when I started getting my transfers, I started a savings account where I used to keep my transfers. I am glad I was able to use my transfers to buy building materials such as iron sheets and nails which I used in building a new house for my parents. I am glad the stress I had about my parent's safety is no more because of GD transfers."

"I plan to build a house for my family to live in. I have two small huts, made of mud walls and grass thatching. I will build a timber walled one and roof it with iron sheets to make it look better and to last longer than the old huts that I have."
